I think that BA use a B747 on their LHR-CAI route (don’t they?)…not sure if that counts as long-haul though, to me its a short-haul route?
Typically CAI is considered Long Haul within the industry, which is odd really given that Cyprus and points in North Africa are considered Short Haul (or medium hal as we now use too, though this is still an ambigious definition). You are right though, BA use them on this route normally.
Goodness, that’s advanced warning! I’m not sure I’ll be around in 18,000 years time to see it, but I’ll throw it in the diary just in case.:diablo:
All I see is a business exploring an opportunity to make money, but I appreciate that may not be dramatic or confrontational enough for some people’s taste.
I agree.
Ok just as an example BA’s early B777’s had the GE90 and after a lot of troubble with the engine BA opted for Trent’s on it’s later aircraft, to me that says it all.:)
I actually suspect the original GE90 engine order was more to do with BA selling a significant section of their Engine Overhaul business to GE. I think it was widely seen that Staus-Quo would be reinstated once the sale had gone through and the original 10 aircraft had been delivered, and indeed it was.
That means that at best you need a bus/taxi to a train station (Rochford? Prittlewell? Southend Central?) and from there to London.
Or of course the Airport’s new station adjacent to the new terminal.
Personally though I do think Expressflight may be over-estimating the capabilities of SEN to attract services. It is a different offer to LCY and will need to carve out it’s own niche.
I have seen the website in question before. It is ridiculous and naive to say the least.
I think from memory he went nuts about the recommendation by the AAIB that FR must fit better banister systems on their 737s after the child fell through the gap. However the ridiculous nature of the site meant that the guy who runs it completely missed the fact that whilst the incident affected a Ryanair service, the recommendation was applied to ALL airlines operating the aircraft type with rear airstairs, and that includes airlines he is supposed to ‘like’ such as British Airways. I did post on his forum this little inaccuracy in his article/rant, however he removed my post (unsuprisingly, heaven forbid Ryanair be no worse than any other airline).
I can help on one..LAX. Iberia have announced that they are starting direct servcies to LAX from MAD.
I suspect you won’t be so lucky with the others mainly because of the fact you’ve picked key hubs for OneWorld, so I suspect IB will continue to codeshare with partner airlines, especially after the merger with BA.
IB have expanded their codeshare in the USA with American as part of the new transatlantic joint venture, and so I supect they will only maintain one direct West Coast route, so I think SFO will continue to be a change of aircraft in the states.
I don’t see a link to show your source. As far as I am aware it is nothing more than an updating of the bilaterals, and quite often once LHR frequencies are stepped up, it is common practice to add Manchester to the bilateral. This doesn’t normally bring about any services though, just the option for the future. Happy to be corrected, but I haven’t seen any evidence that anyone actually wants to operate passenger services on MAN-TPE. Besides, these things should always be taken with a touch of caution as on many many occasions airlines don’t deliver things they say they’d like to operate. I’m relatively young, but after only a few years in my job, I have realised that you should never ‘absolutely’ expect a route until the wheels hit the deck!
I wouldn’t get too excited about seeing passenger services from Manchester to Taipei in the near future. All that has happened is the bilateral agreement has been amended, this is standard practice, and indeed there are many routes which could be served from Manchester according to the bilaterals, but aren’t, and indeed are unlikely to be so in the near future.
I think there is more prospect of new freight services.
I’m not certain they all will. I expect a number of those in the office at PLH may be shown the door over time, it’s not worth duplicating a number of roles.
Furthermore, I still think there are wider issues related to the sale of the Airline and not the Airport, which will lead to the loss of air servcies for Plymouth.
Finally, I’m not yet certain what this will mean for fares, when one of the most expensive regional carriers takes over one of the cheapest (they’r eoften better value than Flybe) then I suspect the fares can only go one way, and it’s not down!
An airline brought down by the lack of negotiation by unions to adapt to the modern world of Aviation. Funnily enough, they all seem willing to negotiate now though! Perhaps a lesson for the BA unions?
Well, of course the investor line could be the typical hype which comes to nothing once they see the books in detail, we will have to wait and see. Only a couple of days ago, Aer Lingus were highlighting how the new franchise was already profitable for them, but perhaps it hasn’t been so good for Aer Arann (yet, it is still in its infancy).
Perhaps this will see the return of Aer Lingus Commuter as a wholly owned EI subsidiary. It may fit the emerging EI business model or a return to more traditional services (as enty’re considering their next alliance options). That said, with EI having used up so much of its bank account to keep operating, I’m not sure they would want to risk spending some of it on Aer Arann, unless they get it ‘for a song.
Is it that time of the year again already? 😎
Haha 😀
Before flying on an Airtours A330 back in March 2002, I would have shared the same view, but seriously, a downstairs toilet was very exciting. Definitely one of the highlights of my Jamaica holiday. 😀
I also had the same experience on a MYT A330 to Florida :p
Well, I’ll strike Jamaica and Florida off any list of travel destinations then if the toilets on a plane are going to get me more excited.
Frankly I’m not sure how much more leg stretching you can do going down some stairs than walking along an aisle?!
Thats approx 237 complaints per DAY. The mind boggles.
I suppose you start to loose all credibility when you complain with this frequency. It’s a bit like crying wolf isn’t it?
