I have to confess that i prefer the outgoing livery as well, rather than the new tacky looking livery, may look better when we see it though. The current livery is quite a smart corporate statement, but perhaps it doesn’t have the brand image for where Spirit aim themselves in the market?!

The report I have read this morning says they are still considering the remaining fleet replacement options, including looking at 787-10, A350XWB and 777 (300ER). I wonder if the 777 order would have been more forthcoming without the engine choice restriction placed through exclusitivity with GE??????!!

It was always a stunning aircraft, in military or civil service. And that shot of the L1011 shows why it was such a nice looking aircraft!

My company has been considering recruiting a graduate level consultant, but you’d need a full degree.

Go to this link, and pick 2006 annual, then Table 12.1. Remember that you may have to consider city pairs, rather than airport pairs!

Seriously though, to pull out of a route after 50 years says something about the state BA these days. I wonder how much of the stated reasons are ‘smoke and mirrors’ aimed at masking current difficulties within BA’s business ?

I disagree to be honest (and not to be awkward LOL). It has always suprised me that BA have operated DTW, which has become a notoriously low yield market, and isn’t even bouyed by a strong underlying leisure component. With NWA having such a prominent hub there, it adds to the difficulties of external airlines because the NWA frequent flyer program probably makes that airline more attractive to premium travellers. I’d say the reasoning is probably quite genuine

Whilst I think your statement of “to pull out of a route after 50 years says something about the state BA these days” is very true, I think we would disgaree on why. The old BA (and we’re talking 80s/early 90s) would have continued many such routes, for the purposes of prestige. The new BA has to be competitive, and aircraft resources are not cheap. The airline has finally cottoned onto the fact that these resources may be better used elsewhere, and routes that do not deliver adequate profit will, and rightly should, suffer.

I’d say the reasoning is probably quite genuine, but even if its not, if the aircraft resource can truly be better used elsewhere then it is a sensible business decision.

Was DTW a former BCal route?

So will it stay as ScotAirways and take it its Southampton flights will be stopped? Oh and I hope they keep the Dornier 328’s.
    James

The closure of the Southampton-Amsterdam service was announced last week anyway, so yes, all flights to SOU will be stopped. At this stage they will only operate the two services from LCY.

Although ScotAirways will exist as a company, the corporate identity on its aircraft will disappear and be replaced by either the Air France livery, or, more likely, the new CityJet livery… http://www.airliners.net/open.file/1217641/M/ .

As for the DO328, I suspect there are plans to replace these anyway at some point, it would make sense to increase capacity.

Not great times for spotting though, Josh. A quick look shows that it arrives at 2025!

I’m no expert at aviation photography as its not something I’m into, but I’ve seen some fantastic evening/night shots of Wizzair a/c, their livery just seems to work well under floodlights. I guess not so good on the runway though;)

Just wondering how this one will work out. I have had several thoughts running through my head but just cant seem to think how will they work this one out. I mean if we look at the fleet size buy that time we will have

This was announced months ago now.

I don’t undertsand what you can’t work out? Whats wrong with this merger? Consolidation within the European IT market is probably long overdue.

I mean if we look at the fleet size buy that time we will have

and its ‘by’, not ‘buy’, but I’m sure you realised that

There is no road as the termianl in the way

There is a roadway between the terminal and stands, so Adam is sort of right to question that. Blast isn’t a major issue because the aircraft aren’t running up to those sorts of power levels on stand. There are a couple of stands which can park nose in, and I think there are tugs for some GA aircraft at the Jet Centre.

No, its not unique in the way aircraft are parked, there are plenty of similar examples around.

Basically, the aircraft power in under their own steam, break hard on the inside wheel and swing round onto stand. Passengers board through the front as normal (although some BAe-146/RJ operators use both doors anyway). They then taxi out under their own steam also.

I’ve flown through there quite a few times, as they’re a client of ours. What do you want to know?

Slight difference, I know, but same principle…my father works for a company in London, and he has to travel to Bristol quite often on the train. Even though he holds an ‘executive’ position/title within the company, he is not allowed to travel first/business class on the train; and instead has to travel Standard class with all the other people, which makes working on a laptop a misery for him!

I have to go standard class by train for journeys of less than 1-hour, all others I go First. When it comes to flying, much more varied, long haul is business class only because if we’re expected to work at the other end then you have to be well rested and comfortable. Domestic and Short Haul vary because it depends on the needs at the time you’re booking. For example, flexible fares may only be available in business etc, although the overall aim is to do it as cheaply as possible within your travel requirements. Also helps when airlines are your clients as you tend to just ring them and get appropriate flights for nothing.

Why ? Has a sense of humour been added to the banned list ??? This place is getting awfully serious these days…:o

I don’t think that the topic was supposed to be funny, and I can’t actually decide if comments like shirt lifter were supposed to be either, especially as there has been no word from the author of those words…if I had written a potentially offensive comment and people had picked up on it, I would have made damned sure I put it into context, probably by saying something along the lines of.. “it was taken out of the context in which I meant it, apologies if I caused offense” etc etc. But nothing!

You have to recognise that comments, being read on here COULD be taken as offensive. Many users don’t know each other on here, and could walk past each other a thousand times a year in the street without realising. So how we can all be expected to KNOW that someone was only joking is beyond me, without context.

As for people coming on saying..”but I have lots of gay friends and talk this way to them.”, well that’s absolutely fine and dandy for you. Putting my head above the parapet, I admit, I am gay, and most of my mates are straight laddish guys, who also make such comments to me, and I brush them off because I know the context in which they are used, I know them, they know me. I would actually be pretty pi**ed off if I knew they were referring to any old random gay person as a shirt lifter because that person will not necessarily know the context in which they are using the terminology.

I think that it is probably difficult for many users of this forum to understand…for the reason that they are likely to be straight white men, funnily enough, one of the only groups on this earth who are difficult to insult, because for many years they have been considered the superior norm (I say superior to put it into context as to why there are derogatory terms around for women). So, if you fall into this category, then just think a little bit next time about what you say, joking or not, you may not understand the effect that such comments can have on people, as its probable that the shoe has never (and will never) be on the other foot!

I have to confess, now that the topic has been continually discussed, I think it would have been nice for a Mod to at least make comment about “being careful not to offend anyone” rather than certain mods suggesting that people are taking it too seriously.

Sorry if this seems a bit straight laced for some of you, I like a joke as much as the next person, I also dislike being insulted, the problem is, I can’t always tell with written words, from people I don’t know, what context is being used!
