LH eats Swiss
Well, it’s happened, and I didn’t think it would, but Lufthansa have confirmed they are to take over Swiss International Air Lines. Gives LH another corner of the European market, but I doubt their commitment to a ZRH hub is as genuine (or possible) as first appears. The deal will be sealed tonight at 20.00 hours. Apparently Swiss will retain its identity and much of its management will stay in Switzerland.

Like most of the under 25s on the forums, an IT Charter flight, my first was on a Britannia B732 – the only 2 flights i dont have reggies for, mind you I was only 4!
I may be an exception to this then. Deutsche BA, SAAB 2000 LGW – BRE. Fantastic little aircraft, people say they are noisy, but I don’t remember that to be the case. I think Sept 1996.

Yes, you could go and visit Nasty-Nige at CAM at the Sheraton Skyline hotel (as mentioned above). However, I would personally recommend the LHR Visitor Centre on the north side of Heathrow, inside which Aviation Retail Direct (http://www.aviationretaildirect.co.uk) have a shop selling models.
Andy
LOL, I agree about Nigel… 😉 However I always find that the one at the Visitor Centre is more expensive than CAM.

Yes, if you go to the Sheraton Skyline Hotel (free buses run from the central terminal area along the A4 and they can stop next to the hotel, I guess yu could get a free transfer from T4 (near Hatton Cross) as it is free to travel on the Heathrow Express between the terminal areas). Just go into the hotel entrance and turn right, there you will find Collectors Aircraft Models, they are one of the largest (and most reasonably priced) specialists in the UK, although often the amount of stock displayed is disappointing. Their website is http://www.collectorsaircraft.com.
The visitors centre is not very good, but again, the free buses that run to along the A4 can stop near the visitors centre. It is free, so won’t break the bank, but don’t get too excited.
I used to live in berkshire and worked on a contract near Heathrow so know the area fairly well, but have now moved, so couldn’t help you out.

Is the “phantom” QANTAS LHR-MAN service using Flightline 146s a similar phenomenon?
LOL, This has always confused me too! There were no Qantas applications for the last lot of slots to my knowledge. However OAG still show one frequency a week! I do not know the answer to this, but I do know somebody that will, and so I’ll try and track the answer down when I go back to work on Monday……

Sorry to change the subject, but I’ve bought the latest Flight check, and it says Cathay have started A340 passenger services?
CX applied for slots again, however they are not launching the service (for now anyway). Many airlines apply for slots in this way, but sometimes it can take years before they actually choose to apply forslots and actually use them.

Don’t you dare patronise me!!! 😡
I’m not quite sure what that means mate, I’m not trying to patronise you. I work in the industry, and deal with airports and airlines. It is simply the case that airlines don’t always operate what are or have previously been profitable routes.
