It’s a bit late for lindoug, but rogcoll might be interested in this:

You can request a crash report from them, and this is the sort of thing you get:

More than happy to stand corrected! 😉

It’s just that Dave Brett always insisted that the photo was Andrewfield…and I didn’t really question it to be honest. Probably because the image also got used on the book on Andrewsfield!…Come to think of it, those pylons in the background do look a bit suss to be Andrewsfield!

I have heard that Mr Bullock did beat up Andrewsfield on a few ocassions…impressive I’m sure, but the very low altitude does leave me a bit cold!

    Regards;
    Steve

I’ve had a look on the OS and I can’t see a line of pylons near Andrewsfield – but they might be several miles off, and the scale of the excerpt doesn’t make it easy to search around. That said, there have been pictures of Don Bulock flying Sally B at JESUS-FLAMIN’-H-CHRIST! height at Andrewsfield posted here in the past. If the search facility has been unclogged, try searching for “Young farmers”…

I can’t find any information on CWGC regarding any graves at Compton – at least, not at a Compton in Berkshire. There are two RAFVR graves at Hampstead Norreys, but both are of locals who presumably were brought home for the occasion.

    Not very helpful, I know…

    “All my own work”

    or perhaps

    “Here’s one I made earlier”.

If you are going to have engine problem, you might as well do it thoroughly!

A naval shell? That was one hell of an overshoot …

Anyone want to take a small bet that it’s a German bomb minus its tailfins?

The one I found was descibed as a shell by the plods, despite coming from a known wreck site… OK, it did look like one, and they presumably weren’t as geeky as me, but…

If anyone I hear of organises anything, I’ll be in touch – I’d give my eye teeth to see a Be2 over RFC Port Meadow (or even better, on it – though that might be a different matter!).

Then there was that 71 Mach1 that I flogged to mate, he did it up & ran it around in primer for a bit, unintentionally it making resemble an HE219 Uhu in the process 😀

Somebody round here had a Jag XJ6 with a big-bore exhaust, brush-painted in matt black with sprayed grey nightfighter camo squiggles. Sadly it never passed when I had a camera handy, because it looked and sounded seriously scary.

Good grief! Of all the noises I expected the Sabre to make, that isn’t any of them! The only thing I can think of to compare it with is the vacuum cleaner note of the Tucano… I was expecting something much more like the the Macchi seaplane that JDK provided a link to a while back. How bizarre!

Do I recall reading somewhere that the final test on the bench for every Sabre was ten HOURS at full hun-on-my-backside emergency boost? If so. some piece of kit…

Well, that’s solved that little conundrum. All we need now is to answer what Mark 12 doesn’t know about Spitfires and what is in Andy Saunders PM box, and we’ll have solved all the questions worth asking. :diablo:

Fascinating stuff, James, and in this age of instant communication makes it seem almost impossible that the US was still taken by surprise five hours later.

did anyone hear that they have found another one?

No, but anything is possible! Already Sky News have reported in their headline that the cookie has been detonated, whilst the article reads defused, and Channel 4 stated that the bomb was going to be diffused – which really would be worth seeing!
