    Having read the rest of the thread, I am still thinking WTF, just a slightly different WTF? Feel sorry for the poor T33, but at least the people got out in the right number of pieces.

    Ooh, now that’s an interesting proposal. Can anyone confirm,  because it sounds plausible especially given that the photo shows a clipped wing.

    My late dad saw two young men who’d come all the  way from New Zealand to do their bit collide and spin in, both dying, in 1941. Still at OTU, probably hadn’t even seen the enemy yet. 

    Not sure the relevance now I’ve written that, but I felt the need to post.

    I take your point, Mothminor, but it seems a bit of a specific requirement, having a Spitfire on a Queen Mary with a tug. Unless there were lots being moved post-BoB?

    Plus of course, if its not NH238 in the photo, which one is it?

    If I can find the right issue of the mag (I usually pass them on to my godson, so I may not have it) I’ll see what else it says about the sale, as this is in the letters in response to it. Though I’d expect if it was an auction catalogue that it would have a photograph of the actual lot in it, rather than a stock photo?

    I couldn’t resist!

    Apart from fawning state media reports from the likes of North Korea, I can’t imagine any time since the first post-WW2 government here in the UK where that might have been able to happen (and I seem to recall a lot of the officer candidates for that election stood as a way to get out of the forces early before the inevitable reductions). 

    What if a US senator/congressman was in the National Guard? 

    I suppose if one of the remaining hereditary peers was young enough to actually be in the RAF… but that’s clutching at straws!

    Intriguing, lots of docs connecting her to the Taskers sale, so what’s gone awry? Supposedly highly original,  which didn’t sound as though she was rebuilt as a high-back.

    I’m sure we can all think of equivalents that we’d like to offer a back-seat ride in the Martin-Baker Meteors. 

    Some might even get offered a parachute…

    Thanks for the gen. If you read the Spotted thread you’ll know I often see their ancestor the Skyvan trundling over and,  having been in said Skyvan,  I think the only thing more like a shed is the Hamilcar relic at Bovingdon. 

    Must watch Dave’s video (to keep the thread on track).
