The Grauniad actually gave a very balanced report on Shoreham yesterday, certainly compared to the Times who’s article that pretty much said it was the pilot’s fault.

At a brief glance it even seems to be a surprisingly accurate article, at least by the usual standards of the Wail. I await the Hun in the Sun to shoot me down, now.

Given that there’s a fire pump in there (effectively a pump for rapidly moving water from a static water source, as opposed to a fire engine with its own water tanks), I think the “bombs” in the last two photos are fire extinguishers, especially as there appears to be a handle on the top allowing it to be held horizontally.

Amazing. I love these detective work threads, I only wish I could help with more of them!

In the light of posts like this
“there are indeed some commies on this forum, it seems to be a trend these days, they are usually left wing twitter users “
you appear to be determined to be one of them. I suggest you go back over your posts, read them, and have a think as to whether perhaps you could respond a little more diplomatically. At least seven people have died, and you are coming across as being determined to cause trouble.

Blimey, not a lot of clues! The building might be a Georgian house with stables attached (look at the row of tall blocked doorways in the last pic), beyond hat I haven’t a clue.

This is the best pic I can find of the steel bits of the Il-2:

The Bugatti family were knee deep in artists, and I have to say that it shows!
I’m very impressed by this, and I hope they can fix it and sort out getting it safely on the ground and stopped post-haste.

Allegedly the station clock from RAF Great Sampford, if I read the somewhat muddled story right (I think he might be getting muddled with a squadron).

On going back to see just how silly money it made, I see that it was withdrawn from sale having been lost or stolen. I shall be charitable, assume the seller is talking about his letter with the provenance, and wait for the next email from Ebay…

Drool-inducingly lovely, thank you for posting it!
Those crates in the background… from B***a?:dev2:

Entirely irrelevant to Spitfires but I seem to recall that sleeve valves always chucked oil, and Sabre-engined aircraft left a distinctive trail of fug. Presumably they had a whacking great oil tank.

Could be a library picture – “Here’s a bomb the MoD showed us earlier”.

Thanks, Bomberboy, trying to work out what a non-aero type spotted over on another forum!

Anyone know whether the Blenheim might have been over Rugely today?

An old bosses father had been shot down in the Bay of Biscay and interned in Portugal, and claimed that it was by a captured Wellington. I have to say that I always assumed a Ju88 or Ju188 would be better bet, and easy to mistake in the dark.
