It is, by far, the most exciting thing happening in our dormant community. I hope you enjoyed being in our country…..
We always enjoy having Brits around (unless they are soccer hooligans)

I dunno, the lassies playing hockey were quite exciting!

Yes, we enjoyed it, though would have enjoyed it more if we hadn’t brought the sh*te weather with us! We’re more currymonsters than hooligans – despite being warned that a decent curry house is hard to find in the Netherlands, we found two.

(yes, the Brits are obsessed with curry. Perhaps not quite like the Dutch and liquorice/drop, but getting that way)

Bother, that’s a PITA – sorry to have sold you a pup on that one!

Happy to agree with Airspeed Horsa on that one – the doggy shot shows just how old-fashioned Efke emulsions really were, it’s hardly distinguishable tonally from the WW2 ones! Sadly, the factory has gone ****-up this summer, and we will not see the like again – possibly the end of 127 as well.

Do keep posting, these are fascinating!

Yes – bubbles would block development locally. Choosing “sharpen” in my program just adds noise.

ASA 50 film probably helps there!

I’ve never bookmarked Retronaut, because I need time to have a life in, and I could forget to eat reading that site!

We all forget just how much went on almost everywhere during WW2. I regularly pass a spot where Hess’s Messerschmitt was displayed outside the “Puseum” in Oxford, have seen photos of tanks in little villages in Kent I used to know, and know that a distant rellie was woken up by a column of Churchill tanks rolling through the village ford at dawn.

Goodness – never heard of a Diax before! Having had a bit of a google, it looks like an interesting beast, though I bet the three viewfinders can lead to confusion.

I know what you mean about the shutter sound – I have a Purma Plus where you really can feel the shutter at 1/500 because the whole camera bucks in your hand, and a Nikkormat that makes such a convincing guillotine sound effect that I keep waiting for the “plop” afterwards!

Not far from the Allison and it’s bearers was this.

**** me, is that what I think it is?:eek::eek::eek::eek:

If you found that much of a Spitfire it would be in the air by now – if that is what it looks like, what I’d give to see it in the air?

You need to fondle a Leica to know. I’m sure it’s been serviced a few times in its life, but it still made my Nikon F3 feel agricultural by comparison. Luckily I can’t afford one!

Film was 120, Adox CHS-ART50 (which, I fear, has now gone out of production), and 6×9 negs.

Processing was semi-stand development in Rodinal at 1:100 – 30 seconds agitation, 30 minutes standing, another 30 seconds agitation and then a final 30 minutes standing – total one hour.

Scanner – Epson V500. Post-processing minimal, just trim the edges of the scan, resizing to a sensible size and a dab of the “Sharpen more” button in my elderly version of Photoshop Elements. If that seems like cheating, remember that I’d up the contrast a grade in the darkroom – and besides, IIRC the need to sharpen is a consequence of digital technology (ie the scanning).

Wish I knew what the blobs were myself. They were all on the top edge of the lowermost roll in the tank, I wonder if they were bubbles? It’s not film storage as it was in date and kept at 4C.

I haven’t, Rob. My interest in this chap’s records was in WW2 ones locally, but the Gosfield F100 (not far from being right in the middle of Gosfield!) came up on here, and someone posted images of the crash report after I’d suggested they order it. I suspect you’d get photos in the report as the USAF seem to have been pretty thorough in documenting them, if that’s any help?

    Adrian
(which reminds me – someone identified a collision in the Wethersfield circuit I was interested in – must find it here, and get the report for that!)

My pleasure, Simon. Hopefully it will be well worth the effort.

You need to search this chap’s indexes:

    http://www.accident-report.com/world/europe/uk/uk52.html

I think it’s about 17USD for a report but the detail is very impressive and will almost certainly include photographs and debris maps.

(several images were posted here way back in a thread about an F100 crash at Gosfield, but seem to have vanished into the text-only archive)

Thanks, everyone!:o I always enjoy camera spotting at OW too – all sorts of bizarre things round people’s necks (the first time I went there were two transvestites in their 50s, each with a German SLR…), and getting to fondle the chap’s Leica was great – I finally start to see why people get so up themselves about Leicas – but it’s not that often I see anyone else’s results. It just seems so right to use a period camera there.

I didn’t exactly use a tripod – I have a little period tripod which is unstable as a drunk on Friday night when used as a tripod, but when used as a monopod it’s the perfect height for a waist-level viewfinder like the Brownie’s, and gives just that bit more stability.

    Thanks!

It’s possibly the most elegant thing ever to fly.

(Robbo is right, I just had to add that bit. I’d have been quite happy if it had been the only thing I’d seen fly at OW that day)

I understand they are filming for the programme Coast and that Saffron Waldon is the main target.
And yes before anyone wants to appear clever and comment, it’s nowhere near the coast.

Ah, that brings back memories of a wonderful day in WaldEn when HFl were still based at Audley End, and were testing four Spitfires at much the same time – lovely to see and hear!

No, it’s nowhere near the coast – I wonder what the story is?
