I just think the CVF has more on its plate than just air superiority and air strike.
If that was its primary mission then surely it would have larger hanger space. Its being planned to be used to stealth aircraft yet it can’t hanger more than ~20 of such aircraft. Im saying I think the designers envisage fewer aircraft being required and fewer fixed wing aircraft. We have after all seen the reduction of air wings over the years from all navies. Also I’m guessing there is going to be more inbetween sortie stealth maintence than on a conventional 4th generation aircraft.
Im not saying the CVF likely to have a dock. Just making a obervation about it hanger design in comparison to displacement. Its not trying to be a mini nimitz.
The RAN has offically concidered operating F-35B’s from the Canberra classes. The offical word is its not a priority. But there are many reasons for that. We are going to buy F-35’s. F-35’s A and B share high component commonality. Australia could use the F-35b’s even with out carriers. We have previously had carriers and it was only bad luck we don’t have one now.
I see no reason why Australia would not be interested even in atleast latent carrier potential. Look at the $’s being spent. Australia isn’t downsizing either its navy or airforce or army. Its the opposite.
just out of curiousty are you baseing your statements from the predicted hanger deck size from the bedelles site. as according to AFM it seemed like the offical plans were just being sorted out as they were on the final stages of the offical plan.
i thought the brits had it bad in regared to their navy. i see that canda has it even worse. :dev2:
Dr.Gonzo: [quote] ‘Stupid, its always better to have refuelling capability. Keeping them serviceable for another 2 years is no big deal. Also retiring the Halifax by 2014seems premature as they can still fill many roles provided they are upgraded.’
according to army.ca the halifaxes weren’t as well built as they could have been and have suffered in the rougher canadian warters.
when ever i see Gorskov im always supried how bad it looks it remineds me a bit of the last days of clemanau. i hope it looks better in indinan servise.
also is there an indian LPD program
i thought there were going to try to give the tornados to gaddafi
the RN and other had 2ed 3rd line ships during traflager and though out the sailing age. they were killed of by admaral fisher as he was changeing the RN to big gun battleships and battlecurisers
[he is partly to blame for the shortage of ships in WW1 which repacussed the lack of ships in WW2]
its an intersting solution to a pernnial problem of number of hulls and the ablitly of the ships
i thought every harrier could be deployed on the carriers didnt relise there were so few
but if the F35 is delayed any more the USMC is in real trouble as it harriers need to be replaced and they don’t want supers hornets what can the USMC do if the F35s are delayed?
i don’t actually think any deployment will happen in the falklands as i fail to see how they can land in the falklands without a carrier one old french LPD and a cople of obsoleat escorts.
and a air force which hasn’t changed much since 1982
the russia-argentinia defence pact hasn’t prodused any new kit for the argininans . i don’t think there will be any change in britain untill there new kit bought by the argentinia armed forces
The Sea Kings will be different, but I suppose the measurements, like bolt sizes etc. will be the same. They’ll have a lot of parts in common too, but I don’t think it’ll be identical.
The ship on the other hand… 😮 I think the only usefull thing they can do with it is take it apart, look very well how it was constructed and start from there to make their own indigenous improved design. Here’s something on them, I know it’s not the best of sources:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westland_Sea_King
don’t the Westland sea kings have diffrent engines and many other changes compared to the US helos
more fun in the indian losgistcs:diablo:
I have a question to ask any UK followers of this thread, my knowledge of UK Geography is very basic.[Among other things]
On another Forum [Navweaps] to which I dont belong some info has been posted & I was hoping some UK person could verify it or not
1- The CVF would not be able to dock at Portsmouth as the entrance is too small & Southhampton is a commercial port & unsuitable.????
2- The dry dock at Rosyth is too narrow to put the sections of the CVF together in & no work has been done to rectify this & the dry dock at Devonport is to narrow & too short & nothing has been done to improve it either.
This was on the More cuts coming thread
Good news for CVF believers,[not including me ,I am sane] the problems of tech. transfer between UK & USA re the JSF appear to have been resolved, I always thought they would , but if they had not then definately bye,bye CVF .
1. i thought portsmoth would be enlarged and dreged and they would be starting soon
2. i thought Harland Wolff would be used for final construction of the Mega Blocks
USS Kitty Hawk, a conventional powered 60,000 tons a/c carrier, is scheduled for decomissioning in 2008.
Any chances that it could be looked out for the Indian Navy?
I know Admiral Gorshkov & ADS are in the pipeline, but this would be a one time opportunity to have a carrier of this class with CAT, provided US is willing to sell.
I am trying to think of ramifications of such a deal to the Indian Navy. I have heard of the time it takes for the Indian establishment to decide and act: the ship will not be in Indian colors for another 10 years or so, even if such a deal takes place, if ever.
Your thoughts please?
nope i don’t think that would work as kitty hawk is an old ship and is very near it 50 years it would be very maintainace intesive it would be even worse than hermes due to it much harder servise life i couldn’t see it ever working
thanks mate i thought it was just for the cives so it has some mill use [damm my ignorance]
you do know it inted for the civy market so im not expecting any mil users.
it a great idea it BAE Hawk for the civys will 1mill spare it ment to have very good performance don’t know much more than that
Hi harryRIEDL -I like your Monty quote, you will be glad to know that the Monty way of dealing with problems is still practised enthusiastically by many Aust. Govt. Departments.I have another quote for you.
John 20:29-“Blessed are those who have not seen yet have believed.”
This applies perfectly to the multitudes who believe that the CVF will be built. Let me say from the outset that I have no argument against the CVF or the need for it, no argument with the RN or the UK either. I have no inside info or vast amount technical or political argument either to back up my feelings. However life experience teaches us all a few things and one of them is that large Government building programs,be they Civilian or Military that drag on & on ,milking votes from the effected electorates [hopefully anyhow] for election after election develop a sickening inevitability of cancelation about them. The CVF is in this category & despite the need for it its situation is in worse shape than many want to believe. Oversea adventures are getting on the nose .Blair is in trouble etc.etc. It will never get off the drawing boards although I imagine another umpteen Committee reports & cost eveluations will allow the agony to be dragged for many years yet.
Now for the really bad news for England viewers Australia is now only 100 runs behind Englands first innings total of 6/551 & still have 4 wickets in hand Time here is 1505 Eastern.
thanks for that it may drag on but i can’t see it being cansled unless the lib dem come [*shivers] to power or the far left which would canse anything.
thanks you need the monty python to understand mill proucment
tiddles your lack of fath is alrming why do you balive they won’t be built
