Heard it all before….
Thanks for all your replies. I’ll try and get to Betty’s Bar for sure!

Any link please?
I thought that the show was, as always, amazing. Well done and thanks to all that made it possible. The pink colour of the Victor IS correct as clearly, it would have quickly weathered to near hemp in the desert conditions. Indeed, I can remember aircraft going out in exactly that shade of pink and the comments that it generated back in 1990.
Anyway, what I wanted to ask was: Is there another problem with XR728? I ask because it always seems to be static these days? I remember the pairs run a few years ago which was just AMAZING!!! Any plans to do that again?
Thanks
Paul.
Yeah, I thought that too. I saw one on the ground at LHR in 1998 when taxiing in an SQ 747 and was surprised to see one in service then!
many years ago, I read in a newspaper about a big issue with some houses built immediately post war. It was said that they were falling to bits and that they were made partially of parts from scrapped world war two aircraft. I can no longer find any reference to this online.
Is this true? Can anyone elaborate?
There was a pic of a Canberra Wing including the empty engine nacelle in a scrap year near Hal Far in or around the March 1990 edition of Flypast I recall. It was forming part of the roof of some kind of hut.

Victor Bits
Yeah, I remember the Victor bits to Zebedee. When I went to my first airshow there in 1991 or 92, they were in some sort of fire training area close to XM603 that had radiation warning signs on the fence(!). From 93/94, they were gone. As I recall, there were intakes and a sizeable chunk of fuselage.

Thanks for that………..! I never knew that re the two seat Harrier. I guess that these might be quite rare? It seems to have an engine too. Hopefully it can be saved at some point?
Paul
Were any of the aircraft (or parts of) saved. A book about the work of Gerry Zwannenburg (hope that is spelled correctly!) in the 1960’s indicated that a lot of the aircraft were substantially intact and in good condition, one tale being of some boys who managed to remove (and fire) some guns from a Wellington. I know there is a video called “some of our airmen are no longer missing” which showed an apparently good condition B24 in shallow water.
Does anyone have any pics of the aircraft that were found?

RAF Burtonwood pics
Hi!!! As promised, probably the last pics taken of RAF Burtonwood A and E site on 1/11/08. I tried to get on last year but some jobsworth security guard wouldn’t let me, so on a trip up North I drove over with a mate and managed to get pics of the last two hangars:
‘A’ Site

Towards ‘E’ site:

More of ‘E’ site in my next post cos’ I’m limited to 20 here apparently!

Burtonwood pics from Saturday to follow!
I got some pics of inside and around the hangars on Saturday daytime when the demolition workers had their day off. I tried to get in and around them last year but some jobsworth wouldn’t let me on the site, so I simply walked on this time via the ‘E’ site end. There was one surviving hangar on ‘A’ site and one on ‘E’ site. Lots of pics taken though! My mate even got on the roof at ‘E’ site but I must admit that I bricked myself when I got to the top because I suddenly became convinced that I would fall through (dunno why, there were pure steel beams underneath:confused:) and slid back down again sharpish! I wish that I hadn’t now cos’ it would have been a cracking extra set of pictures.
I will put some up here when I get back to London, sometime tomorrow.

Does anyone know what time Flypast is on Friday?
One crashed off Lytham St Annes….. it was in Flypast a few years ago… I can’t find the issue though! Sorry.
