    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cirrus_VK-30

As a kit aircraft the VK-30 is a relatively obscure design with few completed aircraft flying. Its most important legacy is that the work done on designing and marketing the aircraft convinced the designers that the best way to proceed in the future was with a more conventional layout and with a certified production aircraft. Thus the lessons of the VK-30 were directly responsible for the design of the very successful SR20 and SR22.[1]

All 6 accidents can be found here; http://www.ntsb.gov/ntsb/query.asp hit Cirrus VK into type space.

If it looks ok it flies ok. Does Cirrus VK-30 look OK to you ?

It also says Molton Taylor was involved into this…I see no moltontaylorianism there. No Y-tail nor inverted V.

How do you get 5 people in it if backseat is 50.5 in wide and front 48 in ?

Astronaut and testpilot Robert Overmyer was killed in aft CG stall tests of the VK30. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_F._Overmyer

Why not a Crusader. One american pilot / aviator told me it was the coolest plane he ever flew.

The IWM Duxford pic in USAF Museum seems to be SPAD XIII ( replica ) similar to what Eddie Rickenbacker flew:

I wonder if that replica is fyable or is it just a dummy ?

John I did not know it has been critized that heavily this hangar I mean.
I think the display is magnificent. Lotsa cool planes.

I made my diploma of an aviation center in Finland. It was difficult task to make an aviation center. To be honest ( and this is very coincidental and little embarrassing to confess ) I think I saw the pics of that museum somewhere ( Sports Aviation ? ) and subconsiously “copied” it for my diploma. When I had it done and realised it was done before I had to make new one..took another year to complete my studies.

One thing is for sure..I know how to make an aviation hanger now if someone gives a commission.

I think that Aviation Museum extension is really cool..it just doesn’t fit into surroundings very well ( carbuncle in a way I guess ).

Here is my architecture/professional blog btw; http://a4worx.blogspot.com I recently updated with my pics from a London trip in 2008.

I guess it is possible to use’em as drug runners. TAM 5 flew over 1900 miles to USA from Ireland.

At idle on a CFM-56 as fitted to a 737, the danger zone is about twelve feet in front of the engine and to the sides. (measured from the centre of the spinner) The bigger the fan the bigger the danger area and, of course as the engine throttles up the area gets bigger.

There have been engineers ingested over the years. The only bits that are recovered are the steel toe caps from their boots:eek:

    Thanks Cking,

Good to know. I recently was informed the suction of a propeller plane is non existent. That cannot be true either right ? I mean a regular Cessna 150 has to have a meter or two where the suction occurs right ?

I think people are not really that interested. In the 1930’s the idea of flying to South Africa was quite novel and the pilots considered hero’s.Now if you want to fly to S.A you go to Heathrow and hop on board.

There were two sailplane freaks from Finland who flew a Stemme motorised glider from Finland down to South Africa. They made a book about it. It is an adventure as such.

As I read Henshaw spent 27 hours in RSA. Not making the Chalkie record any dimmer.

The latest news is that Chalkie has done it. He’s back in Capetown having beaten Henshaw’s record.

All credit to Stoddart, but the fact that it has taken 70 years of development to do it, still says a lot about the sheer scale of Henshaw’s achievement back in 1939!

I agree and Henshaw stayed 27 hours in Cape Town. I wonder it the flying time of Alex Henshaw was better ?
