Indeed, but Topspeed, if you have spare time during the weekend, maybe you can design one.
I have been designing one since 2011…and the concept is ready. It is way beyond my reach to realize it…at the moment.
All I can say it is doable…with clever aerodynamics and brilliant structure…and overall lay out has to be way beyond we see today in efficiency…tuned for that mission.
Solar Impulse 2 has been repaired and is ready to continue its flight round the world.

Solar Impulse and Helios ( by NASA ) were inspiring when it comes to solar flight.
What I don’t understand is why they don’t make for instance a 120 seater solar/battery powered airliner with 80-90 meter span with lifting fuselage ?
Something like this with maximized solar panel area and reduced speed ( just 400 mph at 60 000 ft ).
They could have ( if not aiming to fly at nite ) been able to carry 10 people inside the Solar Impulse equivalent plane.
Well given the USAF didn’t exist at the time, I guess it’s North Vietnam
Are you saying United States of America did not have Air Force during WW 2 ?
😀
Does this A-10 get back to base…is it vulnerable to small arms fire ?
Luftwaffe ?
Not RuAF but still an aerial weapon system…
Launch and hit of the Iskander-M cruise missile.
This is a siege weapon.
Structural ideas.
It may not be completely impossible, but it would only happen under the rarest of circumstances.
Airshow over the airfield ?
The F-35 has an APU that would provide power to the flight control system in the event of a total engine failure. This combined with the F-35’s good handling properties at low speed should allow the pilot to stay with the jet long enough to ensure a safe ejection.
No hope to bring it to the airfield in tact in any situation?
Does anyone know if F-35 can be deadsticked ? What kinda glideratio does it have ?
Boyle hello !
How about now ?
Does anyone get kicks outa this ?
After a brief look, I’d recommend longer landing gear legs. Less stress and damage to the fuselage and greater clearance for the prop.
It stands to reason that many interested in a very low cost aircraft will be new pilots.
An inexpensive aircraft won’t be inexpensive for long if it is too easily damaged.
Thanks Boyle. I will look after that stress factor on LG….and the geometry.
Is it better now ?
Based on my 1.43 SG wood composite .
14% tougher than any wood in the wild and 4% tougher than Duramold by Howard Hughes and Virginus Clark.
Duramold was studied to be 80% stronger in the same volume as aluminium.
After my recent 1 month bann ( due to claim of a 1000 km range electric car ) I have been a bit reluctant to comment, but here goes.
50 kg everyman aeroplane tuned.
This needs no lisence to fly nor in Europe or in the USA ( if built ).
It is a high wing ( cantilever ) monoplane now.
It should cost about half of an AFFORDAPLANE.
