I have the oldest Slingsby glider 1935 under complete rebuild.

Nothing to do with WB880, To get out of sport, Which my dad hated playing. He went and cut up a DH Hornet with an axe which had belle landed. I have never found out where or which Hornet it was. Now he cannot remember much about it. I to hate playing sport.

Dan Snow called the spar on the Lancaster a strut, the other day. When he did the Dam Buster show the other week. So it must be a BBC thing!

The use to be a few spare nose section’s at RAF Bicester in the late 1960’s.

Dragon wing panels we had for a while before going on to the G-ACET project.

We sent one to Poland BGA856 that had it nose broken off. It went with some bits of Ian Dunkley’s. Don’t know if it ever got rebuilt.

The prototype Kite so far. Plywood skinning coming on. Metal strut fittings are having inserts welded in. Then to be fitted so the rest of the ply can put on. A bit more ply on the wing root end. I have the tailplane in my living which I am working on at the moment.

The late Mike Maufe went to Hawker to over see the fitting of glider hooks on Hawker biplanes from what I remember. Sadly he passed away a few years ago. Even sadder his son passed away last year. But not before the passed on the family Slingsby Kirby Kite 1 to Shuttleworth.

In the book Manchester Airport by R.A. Scholefield. It say’s that a Hector with a four bladed prop towed a loaded Hotspur glider to 12,000ft on the 12/9/41.
