Many thanks.

The only Kirby Kite that I have down in the list used by the SDF Chirstchurch is C/n 355A. The list I have was compiled by M.H.Maufe with the help of Major J.R.Cross of the Museum of Army Flying, up dated with information from N. Rush 1993.
Dave
I cannot find any Vimy with that serial number. F3195 was the last one in that batch. None in E/ H or J serials.

Its one of Lawrence Wright’s photo’s now held at the Museum of Army flying. It was taken either taken at Ringway or Thame ( Haddenham). More likely at Thame, as it has a yellow around the roundel. I think when they where at Ringway they just used the Red, white and blue roundel. When they did the radar trials the Kite and the other gliders was not Camouflaged.

Looks great. When I met Ron years ago with the DH 84 Dragon parts , He wanted to build a Travel Air R.
Dave
I see that in Flypast, they have announced news of there latest glider. That we picked up a few weeks ago from Camphill.
Dave
Kite 1 number 5 at Ringway just before it was camouflaged.

Vic Spencer MBE obituary is on the net, http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/obituaries/1506203/Captain-Vic-Spencer.html
It makes very interesting reading. Though it should say Fox Moth rather than Gypsy Moth.
Dave
The late Vic Spencer one of the old Russavia pilots use to fly the Fox Moth of the sands at Southport. He use to say if the wheels stopped turning in flight. They where told the passenger flights where to long. He quiet often flew with a dog.

One of the Slingsby Kirby Kite wings c/n335a this stamped on the end spar. Stamped on the main spar is the date 3 Jul 1940. There is a photo of a Kite marked ‘5’ taken at Ringway. Which I do have a copy of at my father’s, I believe this is the same glider that is in the book ‘The Wooden Sword’ after it has been painted. The glider’s where not camouflaged until October 1940 when where at Ringway. These photo’s came from the archive of the Museum of Army Flying.
Dave
Kestrel prop boss.
Dave
The rear cockpit should slant down.

The Vintage Glider Club has many of the Slingsby glider drawings, plus a few other types of glider.
The trouble is that at least the Slingsby Kirby Kite 1 drawings do not tie up with the glider its self! So you would have real problems if you wanted to make a new glider from the drawings.
Dave
We use to have one of those on display at Bletchley Park when we had our Museum there.
