Yes there where Seamew’s at Beechwood, My dad saw them too! There was a small control building which was converted to a house called “Flight Cottage”. My parents loooked at buying it in the early 1980’s before it was done up. It was near the school. I was told a Spitfire crashed near there at some time during the war. Beechwood Park was satellite landing ground No12. It is in Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire Airfields in the second world war by Graham Smith.

I have a 1987 Christie’s sale catalogue which lists,
Fokker Dr1 triplane
Royal Aircraft Factory SE5a
Fokker DV11
Bristol M1C Monoplane
Sopwith F1 Camel, flyer G-BFCZ
Schneider trophy Reps,
Vickers Supermarine S6B
Macchi M39
Curtiss R3C-2
Sopwith Baby
Deperdussin Schneider trophy seaplane.
I think the Schneider reps went to the USA. Also wasn’t there a De havilland DH2 that at one time at Middle Wallop.
Janes 1919 lists three Spyker types. The V2 dual control school biplane. The V3 single seat fighter and the V4 a two seat scout. There are two photo’s of the Spyker school machine and one photo of the single seat fighter. Also basic three veiw drawings of the V2 and V4.

One of the best films was “Don’t look now we are being shoot at” Which came out at the time of the RAF’s 50th anniversary. I forget how many times the bomber changed before it was shot down. But it was a good laugh!
Ian Dunkley at Camphill has a Av22 and a Av36 two seater. these have not flown for some years now. I dont know if he’s there at the moment, as he spends half of the year in New Zealand.
I remember the Mustang which was a Luton airport for some time in the late 1960’s. It was the first P51 i saw! The B25 must have been at Luton around the same time.
I confess i was a Airfix modeler. The first kit i made was a Hawker Hurricane in about 1959/60 i think. I use to buy two kits a week with my 2 shilling’s pocket money. Dad always said read the insturctions, but never did! Built hundreds of plastic models over the years. Still have many to build. I bought all the Hawker Hart kits up in Guernsey in 1969, have around five now. Last plastic model i built was a Nieuport 28 about four years ago. I now have moved on to diecast. Just put them straight into the glass cabnets.
Nice work. Looks like it coming together nicely. Steve is that you near the cockpit in the 1916 photo, Just kidding!
Well done
Dave.
I think for me it must be a photograph album. That my uncle took in 1938/39 of Fairey Battles and Hawker Hinds, plus a few other aircraft that where at RAF Harwell. My uncle was killed in 1942. So they mean a great deal to me, i never knew him.
I remember in the late 1960’s early 70’s on a air cadet vist to Old Warden a friend of mine swinging the prop of the E E Wren. Which then started and ran for a few seconds. Luckly it stopped and for us nobody was around to tell us off.

Mine is a Laird Super Solution. Its nice pre war american radial engined biplane racer. Has a wing span of just over 10 inches.
Nice to see to things are happening to the Zero at last.
heres a picture of my luton minor taken before it first flew in the mid 60’s.
As an intrested Battle fan?. I dont think it was a good aircraft to go to war in. My uncle was with HQ Rheims takiing photo’s with 105sqdn and 226sqdn. He took the much used photo of Battle’s attacking a german horse drawn column in may 1940. Years ago i spoke to Bill Carey of 12sqdn (PH-F) who was shot down on the Masstricht bridge raid. Only to be taken across the bridge by the germans. He liked the Battle but never got to fly after 12 may 1940! I am collecting photos of Battles shot down in may 1940, most seem to have come down under control the right way up. Nice aeroplane flew like a big Dart Kitten and used till 1949.
