The Su’s are fairly large and heavy machines. I wonder if it wouldn’t be better for them to hold off a bit and opt for the supposedly new medium (MiG-29) sized aircraft that Russia and India are rumored to be working on. From what I read, India decided to go for a new MiG design instead of Su’s PakFA/T-50 since the Su is bigger and more expensive than what they require. Argentina may also have similar requirements where a MiG-29 sized aircraft will be better for their needs.

Thanks 7seas, that’s the one. Do they say how large it will be? It looks bigger than what I was imagining.

This would make a nice fleet, the DCN Swordfish destroyer and Schelde 12717 for frigate, now we need a nice corvette.

The brochure that I have only has a silhouette of the frigate sized Visby plus.

It now sounds like the Visby+ and Visby++ are going away in favor of the MEKO CSL design.

    Hello,
these attached photo’s where made less than a month ago at a Royal Schelde booth.
So it seems that they still promote the concept.

    Have a nice trip

Nice pictures. This design could take away the crown from the Visby as the stealthiest looking ship. By comparing the size of the NH-90 helicopter, it looks like it’s a nice sized frigate of about 120m-130m in length. It also looks like all missiles are either vertically launched (both SAM and ASM), vertically launched SAM and pop-up ASM launcher (like the Visby) or vertically launched SAM and side opening doors for the ASM. Not sure but it also looks like the the front turret is for a 57mm (as dfiscussed previously) and in the rear area on the top a stealthy 40mm.

I remember seeing an ad in a magazine of a design from Lurssen for a very similar looking ship. Unfortunately going to their website shows nothing.

Aren’t they also selling this as the MiG-35?

I thought that when I first looked at it but the more I look, the more it seems to be the 57mm. I dont think the vessel is that big, and remember how large the stealth 57mm mounting looks on the Visby.

The CSL is only 108m long so I’m fairly certain it is the 57mm. Although it’s interesting if you notice the smaller turret that looks like a tiny 57mm right above it.

How about the new MEKO CSL…modular, stealthy, high-speed. Supposedly this design will now replace the proposed Visby+ and Visby++ designs.

Can’t wait to see the MiG-37 or MiG-39. And no, not those palstic models that came out years ago. 😉

Part of the deal, although everyone will deny it until it is officially made, will most likely be that Argentina will pay for this with not just money but also food, which they have plenty of.

If Argentina is smart they should hold off on any purchase for now and maybe join the Russian/Indian 5th Gen MiG fighter development, which will probably put it more into the right weight class for Argentina. Even if they only buy 20 or so, it would still be better than the 60 (or whatever number they currently have) of old jets.

Maybe Argentina can get ahead of the curve again, like in the 40’s-early 70’s, instead of continually playing catch-up by buying second hand equipment. Back in the days Argentina bought some good equipment, the FAL/MAG rifle & machinegun, the Mirages and Super Etendards when they were new, the TAM tank, the MEKO ships….etc. Better to have a small number of new and modern equipment than a larger number of second rate stuff.

Heck, they can even spend the money on some long range UAV’s to patrol (and even potentially attack) pirating boats. I would say they could probably buy 20 of the best UAVs for the price of just one sub.

It would be sweet if they developed a strike version of the F-23. Probably spendy though. IMO they can either have a high endurance subsonic bomber or a relatively short range striker based on the F-22 but not a bomber that’s both high endurance AND supersonic without busting the budget (busting it further that is. The USN is about $4 billion short a year just on ship construction alone and that’s just the navy.)

Maybe something like this? Personally I always liked the shape of the F-23 over that of the F-22.

Here is an enlargement of the mystery object in the sky.

It is probably a bird, or perhaps two birds? In any event, it does look a bit peculiar….but there is always an explanation.

Thanks for the blown-up pic. Even enlarged it looks rather strange. The shape does not really look like the outline of a bird(s).

No you’re right, no resemblance at all, particularly not if you consider the side view and look at the general hull shape and lay out. Or the outline of the forward gun. Also not in terms of the integrated topside. Hadn’t noticed the different bows at all. And the overall size difference either. Also didn’t considered the larger Visby plus design. How silly of me….
