There is a gun turret forward, but it is “concealed.”

I don’t know whether this is meant to be the 155mm AGS, or a much smaller system?

Perhaps this profile will give a better view of the gun installation.

This ship looks like a smal frigate design, basically not that big, so I doubt it is the 155mm AGS. To me it looks more like the outline of Bofor’s stealthy 57mm turret. I also find it funny to see the size of the helicopter compared to the ship. Does this ship even have a hangar?

Oh well…unfortunately it’s sounding more and more like this was only for propaganda and not an actual proposed design so I guess it doesn’t matter much anyways.

That does look like a cool design. It even looks stealthier than the Visby class. Hopefully they are building it. The front looks a little strange, is that an opening? Maybe a VLS system? I don’t see a turret, although I see the smaller CIWS turret in the back, looks like the Millenium gun.

I guess they are going for the balance of more protection via higher speed and manuverability instead of armor protection.

I like the Hind in that it is the perfect assault helicopter. Provides speed, protection, firepower and the ability to carry 8 troops. No other helicopter in the world combines all those things in one airframe. This is good for any country to have but even more so for countries with a smaller budget that can use such a multi-purpose helicopter that would otherwise force the country to buy different choppers to perform specific missions.

Flight International reported that the Eitam “will be able to detect ballistic missile launches using pod-mounted sensors“. What can these pod-mounted sensors be?

    Cheers,
    Sunho

I would imagine they are IR or Thermal sensors that can pickup the heat of the missile’s exhaust.

How does this AEW compare to SAAB’s/Embraer’s Erieye AEW platform?

Regarding to latest variant of M-ATF, there is not much information about, but you can find something more about its predcessors Vityaz 2000 and Integral 2000. And it is advanced light multipurpose fighter rather than trainer.

    Matej,

I noticed in your website that you mention a MiG 1.27, is that a project that MiG is working on or just a speculation? BTW-great website! I specially like those charts that you show the progression of various projects, for example the PAK-FA or LFS.

An article does not correspond to the pictures. Article says about proposal of joint development of a new MiG fighter – seems that it is unsuccesfull PAK FA competitor, here named I-2000. I hate I-2000 designation, because it is wrong – only some attempt to name the plane that we currently dont know anything about.

It is also confusing – MiG I-2000 (Istrebitel for year 2000) and what is shown on the pictures – the latest variant of Mukhamedov Design Bureau I-2000 (Integral 2000). Sold to Iran and further developed to M-ATF variant with swept instead of original straight wing.

I didn’t mean to say that the article and the pictures were related, just thought it was interesting to read about the article and then see those models of the M-ATF on a separate website.

Matej, do you have any more information on the M-ATF? Are they marketing it as an advanced trainer?

6th gen fighter = UCAV (unmanned is the wave of the future…less money, more stealthy, no fear of loss of pilot, able to perform high g maneuvers, no worry about drowsiness or human physical limits…etc.)

in reply to: Which Would You Choose… Yak-130 or M-346? #2568806

Probably price is a major consideration for many countries. I have a feeling the M-346 is the most expensive, followed by the Yak-130 and then maybe the L-15?

For a country in a budget (as most are today) that would tilt the decision to which is the most affordable, unless maintenance is such a nightmare and so expensive that in the long run the more expensive aircraft may actually turn out to be the cheapest solution.

Plus the Mi-24 offers the transport capabilities that the Mi-28 can’t.

I think a group of three or four Mi-24 (carrying their firepower and troops) along with a supporting Mi-28 (with it’s more advanced electronics and stronger punch) could make for a formidable air assault group.

The Russian government doesn’t appear to have the finances available to support two new fighter designs over the next decade, and has selected the Sukhoi alternative as better meeting Russian (although not Indian) air force needs.

MiG may get much needed financial support for this project if India decides to join it. I would imagine that India is not the only country that is looking for a 5th-gen fighter but see the F-22/T-50 as too big and expensive and the JSF as also being expensive and needing the US’s approval before it is sold.

I have read that supposedly India is seriously considering a MiG proposal for a 5th-gen fighter as an alternative to the Su T-50. It is a smaller/lighter design that better fits India’s needs.

Maybe India will hold off on the MiG-35 to see what develops with this new design?

Although this small aircraft carrier looks wonderful, besides a show of force, when would Argentina really need or use it? These ships are expensive to build and maintain (let’s not forget the costs of just maintaining the aircraft that it carries).

If you will make an investment, to me a better solution would be for Argentina to purchase (or build) one or two Canadian Joint Support Ships (JSS) and maybe one or two Danish Flexible Support Ships (FSS). This is more in line with the current missions that Argentina is doing for UN support and disaster relief. The JSS provides for supplies and troop transport and the FSS can act as a command ship and provide some backup logistical/transport support. Over the long haul, these ships would provide much more value.

I suspect that the 100mm does have a limited CIWS role, though I suspect it is not quite as effective as the Oto 76mm for that, probably in part due to the very widespread use of the Oto guns.

Now that Oto Melara is developing the DAVIDE guided 76mm round, it will make a very effective CIWS (maybe a cheaper alternative to the RAMS).
