FINALLY!!!! After all these years and false starts. We should all toast with a shot of vodka.
Some of the latest drawing’s in Paralay’s website actually got it very close.

It is also a heavier weapon system when compared to Stinger or Igla, but as far as I know, for the weight class, it is the one with the longest range missile. Another benefit is that it can have limited use against ground targets.
Too bad they can’t make a dual guidance version, IR and Laser.

This is beginning to become like the boy who cried wolf…first showing or flight will happen in 2009….sure it will, sure. They have only 6 weeks to go if they plan on keeping with 2009!

Wouldn’t it be funny if China shows a mock-up of their 5th gen fighter before the PAK-FA is shown. Would certainly be a downer for Russia.
—-JT—-
So Dec. 31,2009 is the new deadline for the PAK-FA first flight..:diablo:
Yeah, at 11:59pm and 59 seconds…it would still be 2009! 😎

Maybe their money could be better spent developing capable UCAVs. It would be cheaper and probably better in the long run since unmanned aircraft is where the future is heading. Argentina has capable technology, scientists, programmers and already have experience building aircraft and smaller unmanned aircraft.
If they are smart, the Latin countries could get together and design a UCAV for their needs, much like what is already happening in Europe.

I like the MEKO route…
4x MHD200
8X F125
12x MEKO CSL
16x MEKO Fusion
8x U214
As this in not a nation looking to start a fight, this gives a good balance of support for UN missions but defending its own waters. Staying with one company will also ease logistics and maintenance.

Well if something is shown in the mid-August time frame, we’ll see which of the conceptual designs we’ve seen through the years comes closest. Should be interesting…

Wasn’t there talk of a single engine PAK-FA? Maybe this could become the LMFS? A smaller version of the PAK-FA. The good thing would be the savings in development cost and the cost savings in commonality with its bigger brother.
—–JT—–
They might as well cover all bases and say that PAK-FA will fly before 2100. 🙂
I’m hoping the article saying something may be shown this Summer is closer to reality. Remember just because it’s not flying doesn’t mean we won’t see a model or static display of the design.

Here’s the complete collection, in high-res wallpaper-y goodness:

They do look pretty cool. Now let’s wait until the end of the year and see what it will look like…maybe!

Wasn’t a benefit of the Gripen (not sure if it still applies to the NG version) that it could be used in not very well prepared airfields and highways due to its short take-off distance?

“PAKFA First flight is planned for the summer of 2009, the start of series production of new fighter jets scheduled for 2010, with anticipated construction of 430 machines for domestic and foreign customers…”
OK, back to the Summer first flight…lol.

Now maybe it can also fire the Barak-8.
—–JT—–
So will a ship carrying Barak-8 missiles also need the smaller Barak missiles or is the new one just as effective for short range engaments?
