If you had a Spitfire PR19 data plate, could you rebuild it as a mark 1a?
The Buchons are not part of the IWM collection, so no!
My point is that a CASA 2-111 does not really fit in with the collecting policy of the museum. Their philosophy; ably shown in numerous restorations, is to return the aircraft to their as built standard. Whilst I can see justification for a Heinkel, I’m not sure I can for a CASA!
Pedantry perhaps.

Good point, well put. Would reverse engineering with a couple of Jumos for display fit their philosophy. If not then it’s only use is as a trade. I think most of us would love to see that shape in the skies again.
I dont believe there are any immediate plans for it – its a bit of an oddity really; personally, I’m not sure how it fits into the collection!
Bruce
Does that mean you feel the same when you see the Buchons flying at Duxford?
…and still with the XU 7 Squadron Bomber Command code. 🙁
Mark
Surely thats JX-U with the codes in an unauthodox way. What’s on the other side.
Well worked out Voytech. Now we just need the reg. Although the quote “Although not a Wing Comander, I did have access to my own Spitfire, another Mk VII, and rather cheekily I had ‘SS’ painted on the side to denote its owner.” implies he uses a VII with 131 and another based somewhere else, that being SS that may be attached to another VII squadron.
I think we’ve missed some clues, although some more knowledgable to confirm or deny my thoughts. The only squadron I can think of with these undersized invasion stripes saw 131 with there NX marked HF.VII spitfires. These later got standard camoflague, but I think still kept the small invasion stripes. Also the cockpit could be pressurized with a larger peice of glazing behind the sliding canopy. Should there be anything visible in this picture to prove if this is a IX or VII.
The best place to find out would be the museum itself. Do you know anyone out there. Hey, you were out there why didn’t you ask, then you could tell us. Go back and ask them.:D
If you mean aircraft ‘G’…then three blade prop Mk V.
Mark
Yes I did Mark. Thanks for correcting me.
Thanks for the enlargement QldSpitty, my old eyes can now see it’s a Vc. Great picture and very sad. Those 85 squadron Vc Spits look great. Did anyone spend 20 quid and take one home?
The picture of the Spitfire/Seafire with the 5 bladed prop seems to have the wrong syle rudder for a Griffon Spitfire/Seafire
I thought I’d heard that the fibreglass gate guardians now on RAF stations used this airframe to create the molds. Therefore they all have the three dents in the wing leading edge.
What’s the aircraft in the background. That would be a big clue. Seems to have the same roundels.
Great idea for travelling to Duxford. Perhaps you should publish your bus time-table here and pick up a few more forumites on the way down.
Talking of buses and aviation, there’s a good condition AEC double decker at the campsite in La Ferte-Alais (a couple of miles from the airfield)
Thought you might like to know that the 26th is ShowBus day and the place will be full of buses. It’s a great day, caught it by accident one year and return whenever possible. I think we count 48 routemasters one year. There does seem to be a few extra flights during the day.
Yes… an F-82 Twin .
Maybe a TF-82, wouldn’t that have 2 seats in each fuselage.
With the amount of Mustangs around couldn’t a restorer build 2 restoration projects into a Twin Mustang?
could it be a 7/8th scale replica Mustang?
