A nice advantage of this construction method is that when they say that the ship is made of watertight blocks, they can show pictures of the ship in bits floating around. This should give the crew some extra confidence in the damage control measures onboard!

The UK does a lot of design and development work in the automotive industry! In terms of day to day cars, the actual car doesn’t really require much designing, and IIRC one of the design houses does the designs for a whole bunch of manufacturers. More significant in engineering terms is going to be the production process engineering IMO.

There’s a lot more than 650 elected officials, that’s just the MPs! We’ve also got the Lords, MEPs, our “share” of the European Commission, local Councillors, soon to be elected Police, and then we have the massive Civil Service and the bureacracies within each public department!
