Agreed, Nuerofen and similar are a waste of money. The same drugs can be had from ASDA ect and are just as effective.
ASDA Ibuprofen (16 pack) – 28p
ASDA Paracetamol (16 pack) – 19p
At that price its well worth buying some so you have them if you ever needed them, and probably keeping some in the car in case you get a headache while you’re out 🙂
Can you buy codeine as an over the counter BP ?
Not codeine, but you can buy cocodamol (codeine + paracetamol), but only from a pharmacy. If you want codeine you’ll need a prescription. Cocodamol can be had from boots for £1.75 for 32 tablets.

@ppp
I don’t care whether you believe me or not. But what makes you think that you know better than the multitude of US and UK staff (military & civilian of a variety of specialities) who spent years pouring over threats and deriving user requirements, and undertaking analysis and modelling and made the decision?
Since I’ve not actually stated any opinion here on whether the F35 is the right or wrong choice, one does have to wonder who exactly you are arguing with? Did you even read my posts? Clearly not it seems
I saw one person on the internet who was adamant that the JSF team chose the wrong contractor, based solely on the fact that the Boeing design looked prettier to his eyes.
And was that person me?
Would more aircraft over Libya have helped? Yes, but probably not as much as better knowledge of where the targets were. What % came home with a full load?
I’m not talking about Libya, I’m talking about planning an aircraft to serve on CVF. Not much point planning for the previous conflicts, we need to be prepared for the unexpected in future conflicts. Focusing on c4i at the expense of everything else is absurd.
What did you expect? This is the way of the modern world. Commentators on the internet and in the media can complain about not having the secret information.
Meanwhile those in the MoD and industry have the thousands of detailed requirements; analysis, modelling and test results but have the joy of being lambasted as buffoons by the first group for making the wrong decision.
FWIW, I had nothing to do with the F35 decision(s), but I have in the past had the joy of reading on the internet why my decisions were crap by several people who based their judgements on a “top trumps” style comparison. Not that they all agreed with each other of course.
[/bitter cynic] 😎
What did I expect? People saying X is better than Y, but they can’t prove it because it’s secret? I’m pretty used to seeing people use that against others, and everytime it makes me think that person is trying win their “top trumps” argument without presenting evidence to support their case.
The capabilities of the F35 although hardly set in stone at this stage are potentially groundbreaking for the RN/RAF. I think although its too early to say for certain, its ability to carry out tasks far beyond expending ordnance are added value that has to be considered…
After all Typhoon has really been covering new ground for the RAF over Lybia and its only cleared for PWII, its utility as a intelligence and communication asset is new to the UK.
Of course that’s not something that some want to hear.
Intel and comms are only part of the solution, the capability to have lots of planes available dropping lots of bombs is what actually gets the job done. However, there are more opportunities to tender contracts, and all the juicy negotiations and bureaucratic positions that entails when focusing on buzz word rich c4i aspects in a platform. Anyone that wants to discuss numbers is seen as being lesser, and clearly uneducated.
The funny thing is, the RN is now at the point where its got lots of knowledge of the battlespace, but no aircraft to act on it with.
@flanker.
Capability and effectiveness of C4ISTAR on an open forum? I think you know the answer to that
So it’s better, but all the reasons why are top secret? ROFL! Maybe they should try that with the economic forecasts? 😀
As far back in time as possible to see how the world began.
The final countdown (1980), you may like 🙂

With all those fins on the top of the fusinage I am surprised that they didn’t call it stegasaurus :D:eek:
So what exactly are these aircraft to do and how many are being procured ?
Excuse the few members trying to enforce secrecy, they seem to crop up everywhere, I think some just like to look down on those members that don’t have a military background 😎
To answer your question, it has a video pod and a comms suite, so the chances are it will be monitoring ground movements and any communications used by those on the ground (e.g CB radios ect), and directing friendly forces in.
I think some of the budget should be supplied by the Foreign Office, since the Reds do play an important international relations role.
some air force display change the type of aircraft they use over the years. the Hawks been around for a long time since the Gnat was used by the Yellow Jacks and the Red Arrows of old. a time for change would have been great say 10 years ago before the world really went to pot and we all knew who the bad guys were. a 4 or 6 aircraft Harrier display team would have been fantastic. after all the Harrier was a British idea but alas they are no more.
perhaps mothball the hawks as a diplay team and hand the guantlet over to another RAF sqn for lets say 5 years. Eurofighter display team perhaps?….as for the comments regarding the future of the Reds so soon after a tragic loss. im sure they are not meant with any dis`respect to the pilot nor family but things do change and sometimes after a major incident such as this the doom sayers in politics or chiefs of staff who have been waiting in the shadows whilst grinding their axes will try and find a way to cut back in whatever way they can. unfortunately at this current time with so many cut backs and our front line guys and girls struggling to fight with the kit and support they have this may an ideal time for the axe to fall…
Eurofighters are too expensive to run and buy for such a use. Those Hawk trainers are cheap to buy and cheap to run. Since the Typhoons already do displays, having the Reds use them too would be a bit pointless.
i find it quite disgusting ( it may be the modern society we are in ) but there are R.I.P. THREADS RUNNING WITH PRACTICALY NO RESPONSE
yet you can’t wait to discuss if you will see them or not next year
quite a sick society that shows little regard for a young lads life but are worried incase they may not get some photo’s next year
and always remember before calling them boring and putting them down the blue angels and thunderbirds hold them in exceptionaly high regard
sometimes acknowledging they are better than them !!
Thunderbirds facebook and twitter have a RIP post on them.
Some of you seem to be missing the point of the Red Arrows it seems. The Red Arrows are excellent for entertaining the 99. …% of the British public that aren’t on aerospace forums, aren’t pilots ect, and this is who they are primarily aimed at. These people are very impressed by their performance, hence why Bournemouth beach had hundreds of thousands of people there watching. What a tiny number of hard to please complainers have to say is I’m sure, insignificant to the Reds, what with their millions upon millions of fans, since no matter how hard they try or what they do, someone, somewhere will have something to whine about.
The public love to see the Red Arrows, so they shall be staying. I’ve heard Bournemouth Borough Council have had to open fourth and fifth condolence books, and they are open the rest of the week I believe. They do their performance excellently, and there is no reason for them to adopt styles similar to other display teams.
As for the (foreign) opening poster, his envy glows green in the night.
On the subject of ejection, he may have chosen to stay with the aircraft and crash it rather than eject. The incident was in Throop, if the aircraft was left to its own means it would have gone straight into the densely populated urban areas around Poole and Bournemouth and probably killed numerous civilians.
Take a look on the map…

You are of course entitled to your view.
However, an accident was badly reported in these forums some 7 or 8 years ago, which led to the family of the pilot believing that their next of kin had been killed. That was not true, and is one of the reasons why, as moderators, we are sensitive to such threads.
When no news has been released, the press look to forums like this, where there could be some informed comment from people who were there, to gain their edge.
As I say, please keep rumours to a minimum. Do you see any reason not to?
Bruce
Its being discussed in the mainstream media, so no, I don’t think anything discussed on here is going to make any difference provided it is stated as rumour only. Now if a medic from a helicopter said they saw him die and said his name, that would be different. I think we need to make sure that people are free to discuss as much as reasonably possible, as that is the purpose of a forum, rather than jumping on the bandwagon of imposing silence.
This may not be my forum, but please do not comment of the status of the pilot until it is known. Such reporting on forums has caused difficulties in the past, when friends and loved ones, like us are looking for whatever information they can. Coming across posts like these can be very distressing.
Patience, it wont be long until we know the facts.
Bruce
I don’t see any issues TBH, any family member will have been informed officially. Any that were concerned would have contacted the MoD information, not gone looking on Key Publishing. Anyone that close would not need to look on forums for such information, they would be provided with it officially.
If you feel the incident upsets you, then I’d suggest a better course of action would be to not read the thread at all.
In this day and age, any excuse, and it would seem that they were already flying with a black aircraft, one of the red ones being U/S
At the same time, isnt it rather unusual that they’ve not released any press about this yet?
If he was safe and well we’d have heard by now..
It could give the impression that the pilots couldn’t be trusted or screwed up or something similar. No government would want to risk something like that about the Red Arrows, the public would not be happy.
some friends inside the Raf think this is looking more like a fatality 🙁
Really does not look good, no mention anywhere on bbc or the vids of the pilot banging out – Doesnt look like it on the above pic either 🙁
edit:
Possible bang out?
There are many rumours that he did eject, though the video and picture evidence shows no sign of it. So it’s anyones guess really!
I’ve seen the rumours that he died, but there was an air ambulance at the scene so it’s far from conclusive. They haven’t said he survived which could imply bad news, but if he was injured then they also wouldn’t want to come out and say he is fine ect as he could deteriorate at a later time.
