the Typhoon bid has a fair chance, as long as they are willing to price compete
Indeed.
I personally don’t believe the F-15SE has it all its own way. Despite what is said here politics will play a part so in a way the recent news stories concerned the DPRK plays a little into uncle sam’s hands given the show of support.
That said, lets not forget that the Trache3 version of Typhoon is an exceptionally formidable swing aircraft which suits the nature of the expected combat with the DPRK well, especially given stealth technology will have a more limited effect in a Korean conflict given the more likely scenario for closer air to air combat
On that note, ask F-22 pilots what happened to them when they flew against RAF/GAF Typhoons out of Nellis on close combat sorties…besides being pretty evenly matched a lot were surprised at how stealthy the Typhoon appeared to be!
I guess it’s pretty obvious from this post but I for one hope to see Typhoon in ROKAF service 😉
the BBC has wiped hundreds of hours of recorded tapes, particularly if there is little or no prospect of their re-release
You’re spot on as many believe that’s what happened to the original tapes of “Fighter Pilot”

Having trawled the obsolete film websites it seems Buccaneer is lost as some of those that operate the websites are also looking!
Yeah I think it’s gone for good. I was hoping someone out there has it on VHS…
As I’m still looking, thought I’d resurrect this request.
Can anyone help? Can’t find a copy of Buccaneer anywhere!
Finally one that has puzzled me for a long time. I snapped this Tornado wreck at RAF Abingdon on the way out from the BoB display on 15 Sept 1990 but have never been able to trace its identity. Anyone have any thoughts?
I reckon that’s probably ZD710 a GR.1 which crasked into a field on the other side of the A34 after a bird strike which took out the engines while taking off from Abingdon 14 September 1989.
The Gatwick airframe was the fuselage of Hermes G-ALDG which is now at Duxford
I’m not sure about G-ALDG at LGW but G-ASSV is correct there was a Brit in service with the Fire Service for many years. It was G-ATLE which last flew with Transglobe.
F-4D went 2008.
F-16C are getting (already have?) Israeli Condor 2 recon pods. AFAIK the RF-4C remain in service.
There were 55-60 F-4E back in 2001. AFAIK two squadrons have been replaced by F-15K. Last F-4E squadron should be replaced by remaining F-15K 2010-11 or retired 2015-2020.
I’d think 2010-11 as, AFAIK, the F-4E haven’t gone through major airframe upgrades.
No they didn’t. F-4D is still in service and will be well into 2010.
F-15K is replacing F-4D not F-4E. The plan has always been to run down the F-4E fleet with all F-16 deliveries now on line.
Looks good order placed.
Now, how about a DVD for the years 80-83? 😉
Be nice if the MoD could move her to Kemble to be with the Britannia.
Bob
Just wanted to say thank you for producing something that will end up in aviation folklore many years down the line. It will truely be one of those “do you remember the time when the Victor at Brunty inadvertantly took off during its fast taxy run”.
I’m just sad I wasn’t there to witness it and am glad that all the systems worked as expected enabling you a safe touch down.
Would be good to see some pics from those on the opposite side of the runway further up the strip. I assume the pros get access up there so come on guys…where are you and your pics???!!!
I don’t know about the B+W but I believe the majority of his personal slide collection was sold to a Frenchman about 10-15 years or so ago.
According to Flypast there might be another surviving RAF Britannia. XN398 it is said was scrapped in Goma, Congo, but…
Hahahaha, now that’s a great one, really made me laugh.
Sorry to spoil your fun boys but I can confirm XN398 or as 9Q-CPX was indeed scrapped at Goma along with EL-LWH (former XL637) early 90’s.
How do I know this? Because former RAF civvie Britannia flight engineer engineer John Byrne who worked for Katale Aero Transport was in Zaire at the time of scrapping and confirmed to me the status of all Brit’s left stranded in the Congo some time ago.
I’m 100% sure the two 4 engined props you can see in the photo above are an IL-18 top and an An-12 bottom.
Was great talking photography with you Steve, you’ll be missed.
My sincere condolences to the family and friends. A very sad loss.
Absolutely fantastic. Very well done to all and very nice first display by Art, just can’t beat the sound and sight of the SHAR.
Yes, especially as EMA Aeropark would have willingly taken ‘TIG and repainted her in BMA colours with who she once flew.
