G-APWH was scrapped a few years ago.
Tks Albert, do you know who usually flies her?
G-ATIG last flew with BAC Cargo and after grounding at Norwich was taken on by the Airport Fire Dept.
However, she was not used for destructive training and bacame a ground handling trainer. Sadly, I believe she was scrapped (with fuselage of G-AVEZ on the fire dump) only a couple of months ago.:(
Anyone with any photos?
Tks Mark. Stupid question this but am I right to assume TFC own her now?
And is do you know if Ed Shipley a resident of UK or US?
sorry if I’ve missed this guys but does anyone know exactly which days she’ll be displaying at Farnborough?
Is she flying on both public days?
That’s pretty obvious Peter! Problems aside, one cannot ignore that fact that RIAT is an amazing event for an aviation enthusiat and als because 558 will not go there, and it’ll be long time before you’ll see F-22’s at one of those shows.
plenty, and all the one’s I’ve been to in Taiwan, Japan and Korea have had on base parking! Although one admits, the shows aren’t as big as RIAT but in some ways that’s kinda nice!
yes of course, one reason why I’m happy to live and work in Asia!
’cause some of us are 8 hrs ahead and flew on a 747 for 11 Hrs and 20 mins to reach this fair land where the show is held…!!! Ha…ha…!!!
In the year’s worth of planning, knowing that things like this happen (Silverstone, Glastonbury prime examples) ensure that “driveway” lanes and pathways were available…with so much military resource used to put this event together I cannot believe it’s beyoud the realms of possibility to ensure these are protected by say the Royal Engineers and the use of somerfield tracking…???
There’s a bigger issue here I think which is the event has just groan too big and that consideration need to be given to a slightly smaller one where the majority of cars can park on hardstanding – there’s enough of it around at Upper Heyford or Alconbury!
I am baffled as to why no pre-emptive measures were taken over a week ago, whether that be laying down bales of hay, or the aggregates we saw them chucking down at the eleventh hour.
Of course the weather wasnt the fault of the organisers, but sufficient prep of the public car parks was seriously lacking, I do hope they learn from not only this, but the ticket fiasco as well.
EXACTLY! Don’t care what anyone says, for an international event of this size to be cancelled due to waterlogged fields is basically imbarrasing for the UK and shows a lack of foresight by the management team – period!
Hastily arranged contigency plans at the 11th hour just ain’t gonna cut it boys! You better have a serious think about 2009…..my German and Dutch friends think the RIAT managment team are a bunch of amateurs……………
Quite right David but I suppose Woodley is more viable now. Pity there’s not a RMAF C-130 visiting RIAT this year, they could have taken the cockpit section home in that…!!!
stevfire
do you know why the cockpit is at booker, and how much of the fuse has been offered?
thanks for the update nick. Sounds like the cockpit section at least will be saved. Presume the museum is going to keep this?
Have you got any other news or photos?
a friend of mine tells me that the BAEG newsgroup reported the Herald was scrapped on Monday evening…a real shame if this is true as I had a contact in the RMAF Museum who wanted the aircraft back home as G-BEYF was originally built and delivered to the RMAF as FM-1022.
Prior to entering service with Channel Express she previously flew as G-BEYF with British Air Ferriers, British Island Airways, Air UK and Elan/TNT and carried the dubious honour of the last flying example of her type.
If she has really gone then it’s RIP Yankee Fox…
