Absolutely fantastic guys, well done all. Look forward to hearing engine No.2 is running.

Are there any possibilites of her becoming a flyer?

See my post above, G-APAV was scrapped at Lasham.

for interest, within my photo collection I have slides of G-APAV WFU at Lasham in April 1974 and G-ANVR WFU at Coventry in April 1973 so this confirms the final resting place of these 2 machines.

Tks for update. Weather aside, I wonder what the hold up is? You would think Cosford want her finished in time for the Air Show…

That’s a very good question Paul, I’ve wondered the very same thing.

I hope that she’s not scrapped. The fact that she wasn’t when the Comet and Trident got the chop hopefully means she’ll not suffer that fate. There was talk of her jumping over the fence so to speak to join the Gatwick Aviation Collection.

I recall LGW paying Channel Express quite a large sum of money for her, so I guess she’s still on the books for the same amount! She could certainly do with a good clean.

Can anyone out there offer any more…???

They don’t necessarility need to repaint them Rich. The RAF Britannia fleet carried yellow tipped props until around 1969-1970 when they began to bring in the red/white/red tips.

I have photos of RAF Brits carrying ASC titles wearing both styles of prop tip colour.

Thanks for posting Rich. Good to see they’re making progess but as Albertross says, such a shame the titles are too big and incorrectly spaced.

In addition the silver (bare metal in service) on the cowlings should be right the back to the engine bulkhead, near the light, looks like they’ve only painted the very first part of the cowlings silver.

But at least this work will protect the airframe for a few more years, even though the scheme is totally inaccuate !!! And come on Cosford, where’s your plan for getting this one under cover????

I remember watching an amazingly low T-33 display by Ormand at Goodwood in either 1975 or 1976.

For lovers of that T-33, G-OAHB, I have attached this photo from my collection, considering the age, having an ex USAF Jet on the British civil register was quite something back then!

Anyone know if she was fitted with live bang seats? I recall Adrian Gertson a regular pilot of G-HUNT (correct spelling?) of Hunter One fame early 80’s telling me G-HUNT was the first civil aircraft on the British register with a live bang seat…not sure if that was correct though?

Anyway, hope you like the photo.

Nice photos Nashio. Did you take one of the Britannia undergoing her repaint outside? Just wondered how far they’ve got.

Beautiful lighting – did you take any of the more historic jets you could share to give a flavour of the variety? Is that Martin Baker’s Black Meatbox in the background of the Merlin shot – has it made it in after all?

Sorry Consul I didn’t. Just did not have the chance as the sunny spells were few and far between. However, besides the aforementioned MB Meatbox all 3 Canberra’s are on display together with the newly arrived Buccaneer and 3 Hunters. The camo non flyer from DJ, the aircraft painted as the prototype and one in Swedish colours.

2 other Hunters and the yellow Gnat were on the flightline together with 3 JP/Strikemaster.

That’s about it, Sea Hawk and some others should arrive in the morning.

Rob, you’re quite correct! The 43 Sqn bird has (apparently) already gone t’s up with a dodgey thrust reverser microswitch. Been playing up all season someone said.

Should be some GR.4’s arriving tomorrow morning so look out if you’re in the airfield before 09:00. It’s likely they’ll come from Brize as the the 13 Sqn anniversary jet was on static today. Fingers crossed we’ll see Shiney Two!!!

Seee yaw’ll tomorrow, and don’t forget to come and visit XM496, the donations box needs some coffers – hint, hint 😉

Yes it is important, although this airframe receiving attention is equally important.

The scheme is important as it will detract from a ‘REAL’ fully complete and only RAF Britannia left in existence and one which the public can board.

This is cause for concern as you would not believe the shoe string XM496 is funded on. Just the insurance involved in allowing people on aboard is in the 4 fugure mark. I can assure you the RAF Museum are spending a 5 figure sum alone on the repaint, a number that would keep XM496 going for years!

So an identical scheme grates a little. I hand painted the port side of XM496 almost solely by hand with 6″ rollers in 2005.

We’ve heard on the grapevine that G-AOVF is to be placed in RAF scheme with Air Support Command titles and unbelievably as the sister machine to XM496 – XM497!!! Stupid or what?

Got to be a hidden agenda by some high ranking RAF offfical that flew on or piloted XM497 I reckon. Our suggestion to Cosford was to paint her as XX367 the A&AEE Britannia. After all A&AEE aircraft supported all manner of test and evaluation aircraft which Cosford is home to and is a lot more colourful. In addition the original XX367 came from civvie street so is more in keeping with G-AOVF. We also tabled XL638 the only Brit lost in RAF service as a memorial to the fleet, but no, fell on stoney ground…

So there we go, if you’d like to write to the RAF museum to help, please do so!

Thanks for posting and great to see the Fury still active, I wonder if it’ll make it to any events this year?

Guppy…h’mm, have to say it doesn’t look good, presume still no activity?
