I think some of you have lost track of the ‘changes’ in pakistan post takover by gen zia ul haq around 1980. initially he was just any of the umpteen generals who had taken over power, corrupt, self-serving, but a loyal dog of the western interest. then he changed, was made to change by afghanistan and the continuing failure of the economy. arab-american project in afghanistan started and 1000s of hate filled madrassas blossomed in the pak countryside. govt educated receded and ground was taken over by zealots. the nature of pak armed forces also went a change with recruits full of zeal and eager to punish the infidels. by 1990 the makeover was complete. the US wisely cut itself loose from the liability and let them fester in their own problems for a decade. pak was tottering on the brink of economic collapse with 9-11 opened new ‘opportunities’ for them to rent themselves out as the west’s handyman in the region.

remember it their commandoes (SSG) who were in charge of training the taliban for the big fights, providing arty and C3I support. SSG also undertook the Kunduz airlift wherein US gave permission to retrieve their army officers before Gen dostum got into the city, but Pak ‘expanded’ the mission and 100s of hardcore talibs and al-qaeda were plucked to safety under the noses of the US airpower which had opened a safe channel for them.

throw in the nuclear smuggling racket wherein PAF C-130s and merchant ships were ferrying stuff as far away as libya and north korea (india caught one ship)

Its kind of amusing how a Govt and army can be in evil upto that level and still get anointed as the loyal dog to ferret out the al-qaeda. methinks there is a lack of ideas and commitment in the pentagon and white house – they are simply not prepared to
get down and dirty to bell the real cats – china, north korea and pakistan.

china – godfather of nuclear and missile proliferation. member of P5 and major economic partner. so they have consistently dared the others to call their bluff and
    got away with it.

north korea and pakistan – ‘proteges’ of china and major beneficiaries of proliferation with US doing a wink-wink from the sidelines. biggest source of terrorists and zealots in east and south asia if not the world.

p.s. does anyone talk of catching bin laden these days ? or have the public been soothed enough not to care ? 🙂

iran , iraq , libya – mere sideshows to show the public ‘something’ is being done, grab
oil, prepare for vacating KSA etc etc.

israel – dont talk about them, israel has no nukes, has never conducted a test 🙂

india – biggest threat to world stability, “rogue” nuclear power 🙂

what is the weight of J-10 and degree of composite used is not reliably known. I have heard astounding figures like 8000kg empty upto 11000kg empty. different sites quote diff figures on its payload also.

since the engine is known, the “real” empty and takeoff weights determine its performance and range.

    when will we know?

    > they have already claimed that there BVR missile equipped with JF-17 will have
    > no rival in S Asia.

so carrying fwd your thesis, means it will be better than F-16 block52 armed with V9 radar and amraam-C. glad to hear that.

and this from the same Govt that was promising glorious victories over India at the same time 90,000 soldiers laid down arms in Dhaka 🙂

methinks WSO is more useful for A2G (strike, ECM, sead). in A2A, the single seaters seem to be ok.

MEUs cost plenty of $$ in terms of logistics. so the cheaper option is do what is done now – train a few brigades of the army with the navy’s amphib assets.

if we seriously wanted to rip apart the terrorist neighbour limb from limb u will see marines and a 3 million man army. but right now, while the terrorist country is just spoiling to fight us (with new arms from Unkil) we are busy shoring up economic issues , dealing with china and preparing to deal with the inevitable backlash from unkil a few decades hence.

during ODS-1 a F15E did manage to take out a flying Mi24 with a LGB. perhaps the IAF guy was just practising hitting a predictably moving target like train or convoy of trucks with a dumb munition.

Digital Angel’s Signature Industries Subsidiary Delivers New SARBE(R) Pilot Recovery Systems to Indian Air Force

Company Expects to Complete $8 Million Indian Government Contract by March 2005

ST. PAUL, MN (May 26, 2004) — Digital Angel Corporation (AMEX: DOC), an advanced technology company in the field of rapid and accurate identification, location tracking, and condition monitoring of high-value assets, today announced that its UK subsidiary Signature Industries Limited has received “acceptance” of the new SARBE(R) G2R Pilot Recovery System from the Government of India. Delivery of units to the Indian Air Force has already commenced, the Company said.

As announced last year, the Government of India has agreed to purchase $8 million of SARBE units. Completion of the contract is expected to occur by March 2005.

Kevin McGrath, Digital Angel CEO, commented, “We are pleased to have completed successfully the development phase of this contract, and we look forward to working with the Indian Government and Air Force as they deploy these state-of-the-art rescue systems.”

The SARBE G2R Pilot Recovery System has a considerable range of features which provide optimum opportunity for early and safe recovery of downed pilots. These features include GPS location, data encryption, combat programming, random burst transmission, covert channel selection, speech transmission and automated activation. The new SARBE system has been designed to take advantage of a new generation of satellites with enhanced frequencies that are expected to be deployed over the next few years.

Signature Industries’ SARBE division provides military rescue beacons to over forty countries worldwide and is the major provider of beacons to the UK Ministry of Defense.
