Aviant in line to upgrade Indian An-32s

Ukraine’s Aviant Aircraft Building Plant, based in
Kiev, is expecting to conclude a contract before
year-end to repair and upgrade around 70 Antonov An-32
light tactical transport aircraft for the Indian Air
Force (IAF).
According to Aviant Director-General Oleg Shevchenko,
the proposed upgrade would be done in partnership with
Elbit Systems of Israel. Each platform would be
upgraded at a cost of about $1 million, he added.
The IAF has taken delivery of 118 An-32s since 1984,
of which about 100 remain operational. Around half of
these require service life extension. Aviant’s An-32
upgrade proposal for the IAF envisages increasing the
take-off weight to 28.5 tonnes from the current 27
tonnes, with payload weight rising to 7.5 tonnes from
6.7 tonnes. Service life would be extended to 25 years
from 15.
I wonder if anti-helicopter role is best played by small loitering scout helos armed with python5 and HMS or a true fighter with vastly more speed but less ability to loiter around and turn on a dime ?
india is not a signatory to any MTCR, CTBT, NSG, NPT of that nature restricting missile or nuclear exports. the restraint we have shown is our own.
US has a nice base in Krygzstan now, prolly stuffed with SIGINT equipment
it should be feasible to upg the H to 5mk2 or -5 std without structural work since the
airframe and engine remained same. it wont be cheap, but quality is never cheap.
I dont think RDM can guide the Mica-RF which Qatar has. but Mica-IR can be made compatible ?
btw does Qatar have Apache or other A2G munitions that came with the Mirages but not compatible with their F-16s ?
Missiles which are just stored in properly would need a full checkup and replacement of
batteries but are otherwise good to go I think. the sensitive parts of missiles like IR seekers have a set number of landing shocks they can handle before replacement…so it depends how much these M2Ks were flown WITH live weapons. Does anyone know if they were flying or just parked in hanger ?
it would be wrong to let that stock of Mica’s go – when the RDY is capable of using them.
> that was quick
not so quick. we first heard this around 2 yrs ago. such a long time to pickup
ready to use a/c ?
the way tea leaves are falling countries around the world need mostly multirole planes with a emphasis on A2G and A2sea work, maybe a few platinum bullet Raptorski’s for A2A to wipe the slate clean on Day1-2. the EU is mainly going to be participating in ‘wars’ like Iraq/afghanistan if at all in future wherein the A2A role was sheer waste after day1.
so the Rafale’s more completed status, proven sea strike tests and the F-15X’s range of weapons and avionics would seem to give them advantage in most markets right now. EF had better develop some A2G teeth and a better radar if they want to remain competitive.
Only Taiwan imo needs to remain primarily focussed on A2A for their own survival and maybe EF could gain some traction there esp if US under chinese pressure denies them the Raptor-E.
Qatari officials confirm Mirage deal signed

this would permit raising the 4th squadron. and these being 2000-5(?) comes with
the RDY radar ? or RDY2? the ECM kit should also be better icms-mk2 ?

ABU DHABI [MENL] — Qatar has completed arrangements to sell its Mirage fleet to India.
Qatari officials said the emirate would sell 12 Mirage 2000-5 fighter-jets to India over the next few months. The officials said the agreement was finalized during the three-day visit by Qatari Emir Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani to New Dehli, which ended on April 15.
Foreign Minister Hamad Bin Jassim bin Jabor Al Thani said his government had completed a deal to sell India the 12 Mirage jets. Hamad did not provide details, but his statement marked the first official confirmation of the Mirage deal.
The two countries discussed the Mirage deal as part of cooperation in defense and aviation, Hamad said. He did not elaborate.
there is a IAF VCD named “Salt of the earth” containing good footage from the
1980s. its available at the BR webstore. the highlight is footage of the Mig25 taking off on afterburner in the red evening sky and then a head-on segment where the huge plane takes off and undercarriages retract into its ample belly.
also great footage of the gwalior mirages and the manual control room used then with chalk and glassboard.

I think thats the only public video of iaf foxbats. they have never appeared in
any flying or static display in india.
India isnt going to get the Arrow and isnt going to buy the PAC-3 imo, so this third project will have to deliver.
Trisonics I believe had all regular pilots as squadron leaders, nothing junior than that.
Oil prices have been at record highs lately…the West can recycle some of those petrodollars back into their mil-industrial complex now.
Vive La France. I knew the Saudis would tilt away from US-UK after 9-11.
propaganda. pitiful waving of fists against a far stronger rival.
