Taiwan should be somewhere near the top , as also south korea…
taiwan has 36,000 sq km and 400 a.c for a density of 1-per-90 sqkm.
as the radars of ASMs capable of doing some ‘matching’ to seek out say a carrier or a ULCC among a bunch of ships ? otherwise how did the brahmos hit a specified concrete building among a bunch in the desert test…
it sure has no IIR, the window would be clearly visible..only place for it is the ramjet
cone in front.
what details are known at present of the J-10s radar ? is stuff like weight, dish diameter,
number of targets tracked & number attacked, A2G modes, A2A range against fighters known?
I am also interested in details of the Thales RC400 if anyone has it. Their website has
a very limited info in the PDF file.

some good photos here…closeups of kaveri, section diagram of akash missile, pic of
the new NSTL small torpedo…
can some correctly id the two different LGBs on this Jag ?
raw comparisons of mflops or mips are not meaningful because planes have many distributed computers and a lot of dedicated asics too for faster work. the sw and applications also matter. a fine computer hw is useless without the right sw for the user.
I think one would need a lot of classified details to really judge say a Rafale -vs- Eurofighter computing “solution” and say ? is better.
it will have a ski ramp.
what is that American sentry doing infront of the indian sukhoi ?
the last public statement by ACM Tyagi said IAF wanted 126 planes of which 66 would be AJT . if thats true, leaves 60 a/c in the bag since Hawk deal is done.
for such a small number best to just lay in more Mirages2K-9 with rafale mission computer
type enhancements. IAF already has formed a new mirage sqdn(the #9) and has facility to form 2 more I think without major investment.
realistically, even if they sign a 120 plane deal in 2 yrs (super quick for our Def ministry) , the first planes wont arrive atleast 3 years later. So …. we are looking at end of 2009 earliest.
if it is the Mirage, it will have to be fitted with a lot of Rafale tech to remain relevant
with upgrades between 2010-2040. that means additional expenses and time needed.
So I am supporter of just setting up another production line for the LCA and doubling the production rate to make up the nos. Special stuff like the new french A2G munitions, laser pods etc can be purchased and integrated. prices wont be cheap but
cheaper than buying a foreign airframe and engine also…
Russian transport planes and helicopters have proved very reliable during their service in India. They may not have the sexy glass cockpit of the 130J but that can be arranged if need be …and they cost less and Russia would be more willing to partner 50:50 as we are proposing for the MTA project.
Buying a half dozen odd C130J solves no real problem and is just a headache. for Paks it is different since the C130 is their primary transport plane.
it will be used the artillery units.
and I’d like to see the armour units try to use Searchers in a *real war* within the mountains and deserts where prepared airstrips are not available or under attack. thats when a truck launched thing like nishant can function effectively still.
I second PLA.

Embraer’s India deal should reach $250 mln – official
SAO PAULO, Brazil (Reuters) – The value of the deal Brazil’s jet maker Embraer drafted with India earlier this week should reach $250 million over three years, a company official said on Thursday.
The official, who declined to be named, said India would initially buy three EMB 145 spy planes for its Airborne Early Warning & Control (AEW&C) system, paying over $100 million. The source expected the deal to be signed at the end of this year.
At a second stage that would last about three years, India may buy another four surveillance planes of the same type, said the official, adding that Embraer saw the client’s total potential for its aircraft and services at around $1 billion.
On Tuesday, Embraer said it signed a memorandum of understanding with India’s Defense, Research and Development Organization to support the AEW&C development.
Embraer is the world’s fourth-biggest commercial aircraft maker, specializing in mid-size commercial jets seating up to 110 passengers.
It also makes small military aircraft. As of the end of last year, Embraer had a firm order backlog worth $10.1 billion.
Embraer stock finished practically unchanged on Thursday at 22.08 reais after spiking nearly 10 percent the previous day helped by the India draft deal and an increase in the stock’s target price by some analysts.
if it can fly from AG, surely it can fly from ADS-1. would be good if IN buys a few…increases the combat power of the carrier enormously compared to KA-31.
Sameer the mockup is supposedly of PV2.
