I think the india govt is looking more to the north and PRCs ever growing fleet of flankers.

if Pak gets 500 F16-block52 yes that would be worry because would embolden for new adventures. but 50 doesnt change anything. and it also matters what weapons are supplied. amraam-c is good, but will it be released (for the PRC to minutely study) ?

the KH55 engine is made by the Omsk design bureau and is the key to its huge range.
is Omsk in russia or ukraine ?

there were rumours in mid-90s that PRC had recruited hundreds of layed-off ex-USSR
scientists to help with their strategic programs like cruise missiles.

KH55 engine is the TRDD-50 turbofan and after a brief search I find someone
trying to hawk them on the net itself. a pakistani buyer also evinces
    a keen interest 😮

It depends on how far China wants to go. China can do a complete upgrade of the Flanker with Chinese engines, radar, avionics, FBW, composites.

    > are you sure the SU27 sized local engines and radar are ready for service *today* ?
    > when is expected IOC for the J10 armed with the WS-10x engine ?

But its not clear whether the J-11 contract allows for the export of J-11s. If the contract allows for the export of J-11s after a fixed time period, then China may sell advanced Flankers to allies like Pakistan.

    > yeah sure. what you say sir.

well Jonsey seeing a virtue in necessity (as in they cant buy anything more) is the true key to happiness 😉
if one sub is in refit and one kept for training, around 4 SSK-AIP would be available.

not much of a fat-cat fleet, but will have to do.

the FC-1 is more akin to a Romanian or Yugoslavian design than the F-16. it has been posted here (photos I mean).

PN has 2 new subs, 1 building, the rest of it – the two older Agostas are today both 25 years old, and the four Daphnes are 35 years old . so I dont think
they are very worthy of emulation.
but I guess they dont have the funds to splurge on anything, and PN gets the crumbs.

    > infiltration taskings ?

for what ? they can just fly into nepal or bangladesh and walk across the border.
atleast 10,000 pakistanis are known to have overstayed their visas and vanished into
the indian economy and this is those that came directly with legit visas.

Elta and partners are bidding against Boeing in a tender to supply AWACS planes to the Republic of Korea.
    Ran Dagon, Washington 1 Feb 05 19:33
“Defense News” reports in its latest issue that some of IAI-Elta Electronics Industries’ new orders and backlog come from a $1.1 billion contract for the sale of three AWACS (airborne warning and control systems) planes to the Indian Air Force.

In a press release dated January 19, 2005, Elta states, “In late 2004, Elta Systems signed contracts with various customers in Israel and overseas. Most of the total amount is from a deal to deliver advanced visual intelligence systems to a foreign customer.”

“Defense News” reports that security restrictions did not permit the company to reveal the identity of the foreign customer or the specific systems.

There have been many reports about negotiations between Israel and India for the sale of AWACS planes official statement that a contract for the deal has been signed.

Elta CEO Israel Livnat told “Defense News” that the company hoped to reap many fruits from its focus on its “50-80” solution. In this method, Elta engineers compress high-performance sensors into compact executive jets. The systems have over 80% of the performance capabilities of systems for large planes at half the cost.

Elta marketing manager Avi Reich said the company was now bidding with Gulfstream and L-3 Communications (NYSE:LLL) against Boeing (NYSE:BA) in a tender worth over $1 billion to supply AWACS planes to the Republic of Korea Air Force.

good thread. whats the extra wing in the f22 testbed for ?

Pixa, they usually like to mount a few racks of monitoring instruments and carry some development crew on test flights so that needs the space. the big a/c can also fly around longer in one shot.

US/West has always focussed more on aircraft to do the job, not huge SAM systems.

no matter how great a SAM system is, attacking aircraft hold the initiative of when to strike and when to pull back. sooner or later, a determined and smart attack will blow holes in a SAM based network esp with very accurate satellite imagery, GPS guided munitions and long sticks like JASSM.

Russia should invest into a JSFski asap if it wants to remain competitive.

Keltron bags Rs 16 crore defence order:

[Business India]: Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 21 : With its focus increasingly shifting to defence production, Kerala State Electronics Development Corporation (Keltron) has bagged orders worth Rs 16 crore from the Navy for production of high precision electromagnetic log, retransmission units and dual channel water telephones and echo-sounders.

The total defence orders with the state PSU have now touched Rs 43 crore, including the contract for making the process base ground mine (PBGM), Keltron Managing Director V Ramkumar told a press meet here.

The 101 unit of PBGM, an import substitution armament, was yesterday handed over to Commodore Kulshrestha, Principal Director, Naval Armament Directorate.

Other defence-related items being produced by Keltron include radar interface units, steering gear control systems and personal rescue beacon.

The company has received a Rs one crore order for underwate telephone for the Russian aircraft carrier Admiral Goroshkov being procured by the Indian Navy, which could operate both on NATO and Russian standards.

A proposal to make Keltron as a total defence production unit is under active consideration of the Centre and a taskforce set up in this regard had assessed the company’s capabilities in the area. PTI

    a typical rbedi para:
The failure of the Trishul short-range SAM and Dhanush ship-launched medium-range ballistic missile to enter service, led to the three locally designed and built Delhi-class destroyers being armed with Russian SA-N-7 Uragans. The navy also acquired the 300 km-range 3M-54E1 (Klub N) vertical-launch missile system to equip three Russian Krivak III (Project 1135.6)-class frigates, the last of which joined the service last year.

    translated:
the failure of a short range SAM and the ‘failure’ of a ship stablization system for IRBMs(not true this one) led to Delhi class destroyers which entered service much before adopting a SA-N-7 Uragan (product of unlawful union between Shtil ,ediu range SAM and Uragan MLRS) . 😀
