Rus is indeed a lot behind.

the SPY3 & the new volume search radar will have a common backend thing to integrate the two front ends (search and guidance). so really seamless levels of integration is to be expected.

pretty bleeding edge this thing…cost obviously is not a criteria, *intimidation* certainly is !

The SPY-3 is an active phased array X-band radar designed to meet all horizon search and fire control requirements for the 21st century fleet. The Multi Function Radar combines the functions provided by more than five separate radars currently aboard Navy combatant ships.
    ……
    http://www.c4isrjournal.com/story.php?F=327946

The Dual-Band Radar on the DD(X) will consist of the SPY-3 Multi-Function Radar, which will operate in X-band frequencies, and a lower-frequency S-band Volume Search Radar. The SPY-3 is designed to search close around the ship, moving out to the horizon rapidly to detect fast, low-flying aircraft and cruise missiles. It also will detect submarine periscopes. The SPY-3 will operate in conjunction with the Volume Search Radar to provide seamless, hemispheric search coverage around the ship.

Written responses to ISR questions from the Navy DD(X) program office at Naval Sea Systems Command in Washington, D.C., state that the Volume Search Radar “is designed to search the hemispheric volume above the horizon for higher-flying threats, limited area air defense, and general situational awareness.” It will hand over targets to the SPY-3 for precision tracking. The SPY-3 will provide semi-active missile illumination, which means that it can guide shipboard surface-to-air missiles to intercept incoming threat aircraft or anti-ship missiles.

What is unique about the Dual-Band Radar is that the SPY-3 and the Volume Search Radar will share a common back end — a common processing and control suite. “The common back end for the Dual-Band Radar will be smaller and lighter and will require less logistics than having separate signal and data-processing equipment for each frequency as in legacy radar systems,” the DD(X) program office said.

“It also will enable the two radar apertures to operate in a coordinated fashion at the waveform level to maximize use of radar resources. The common back end will have modern signal and data-processing technologies and sophisticated [software] algorithms to enable the radar to operate in natural and man-made environments in the littorals,” the office said.

Raytheon says the dual-band approach avoids multiradar, target track correlation problems; reduces software development and maintenance; and provides improved performance in adverse environments.

does the jordanian AF have its own 100% local repair cadre or it employs european/US contractors like the saudis do ?

is page2 of the below final shape of the DDX ? pretty scary looking. I have seen a figure of 208m long (vs ~150m for the latest AAW ships) and a cost of $2.8b a pop during random searches.

of the five Rajputs(kashin), three are planned to be upgraded, the
other two will be retired at end of life. the three newest ranvir, ranjit, ranvijay…the older two being rajput (now a brahmos test vessel) and rana.

a new radar & combat system, brahmos and barak would somewhat improve these ships. I have heard they dont plan to change the old SA-N-1 SAM systems…apparently it manages to score hits on SS-N-2 Styx drones.

I asked because the single or dual banks of RBU eat up a lot of deckspace on Ru-designed ships and based on the above dont look like a must-have thing…yet they continue to appear. some compact
means of launching them need to be developed…perhaps a rapid fire 2-barrel mortar using rounds from a magazine below.

the system will need a decade to get fully operational from pov of both countries as many sats would need launching and many issues including financial investment need to be worked out. any glonass guided weapons would need to wait for that.

but its a good beginning to the program.

yes please send it to me. I will PM you my email addy. the indian
version has a short desc in BR.

” Air/Surface Search; One Fregat M2EM (NATO: Top Plate) 3D circular scan radar at E-band frequency, provides target indication to the Shtil-1 missile system. Featuring continuous electronically scanned arrays, the radar rotates at 12 or 6 rpm and has an instrumented range to 300 km. “

and access to galileo military signal is already confirmed denied. I suppose tri-mode devices for gps-glonass-galileo are feasible like the tri-band GSM cellphones given the high extent of feature integration within single chips now.

I meant it in a good way, as in pulling Unkil’s leg…hence the trailing smiley.

seriously, anytime anyone outside of Unkils control acquires
the ability for precision navigation and positional info Unkil tends to throw a fit. even close NATO allies havent been spared the harsh words over Galileo.
