from pakistandefence.com:
CN-235-220 (Another three By Dec 2004) 1 Light Transport/Surveillance Aircraft
C-130B/E/Hercules 20 Heavy Tactical Transport
HAMC Y-12 (II) 1 Light Tactical Transport/General Utility
Antonov An-26 1 Medium Tactical Transport
Fokker F-27 200 2 Light Transport/General Utility
Why are they keeping 1 unit of AN26, Y12 and 2 Fokkers ? wont
they be a pain to maintain ?
Looks like the 20 C-130 are the main theatre logistic. How many
refurbished C-130 are in the pipeline?
PAF_fan the US Congress has officially filed reports now wrt to the
exercise.
the IN Navy chief has said yesterday Scorpene talks are complete
and only cabinet clearance is needed.
They are far more credible than “unnamed sources in defence ministry” or “senior retired admiral” or “my milkmans cousins nephew”

I like the first design.
the article clearly states the sonar, combat system, systems inside
the sail, the VLS and many other things non-russian. hull design, propeller, the torpedoes/Klub, help with the reactor & propulsion gear would be Russian sourced.
it should be a respectable entry into the SSN world even in 2010.
I hope they export it and earn some money & market for the next version.
btw two brahmos wont sink a a/c carrier unless its really small.
I did much prefer about 8 Type65 wakehomers exploding below
the hull for that!
yeah I had forgotten the fixed wing stuff. need to read up on that.
the leash in terms of engine tech is held by US(GE,PW), france(snecma,CFM-GE), UK(RR) and Russia..and boy do they hold it tightly.
In the next 10 yrs only china and india are going to escape this
leash and breathe some fresh air in the mil turbofan area.
in civilian arena, the three western cos will continue to milk their
cash cow for next couple decades. india-china-brazil-russia combo could mount a challenge after 2020 if they pool their demands and industry for it.
Rupak I did so on previous page. However I think that list indicates all totals delivered and some would be retired now or
relegated to a training role only.
most of the wave1 units are located < 500km from border in
north and central india. Still, I agree that PA units are generally
more closely deployed on border and have shorter lines of march.
> but almost as many choppers as India
well we just “agreed” india has around 300 and Pak around 150.
thats not “almost as many as”, thats twice!
> One side will have a marked advantge in terms of airborne
> and mechnised battalions/brigades
as of today, india has more mech and armoured formations.
> Trucks will not be used in open desert warfare
wrong. most of the army type trucks have large soft types for
low GP and adjustible suspensions for going over soft ground.
and why restrict to only desert ? there are other areas too…
> Pakistan and Indian Army have similar C3i and training
> capabilities
jmho thats not true anymore. IA has been holding many very
large integrated exercises jointly with IAF in last six yrs.
I think your statement was true up until late 1990s when IA began to get fresh and heavy investment. when was the last
multi-division PA field exercise with say 100 PAF a/c in support?
globalsecurity.org puts PA at 520,000
http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/pakistan/army.htm
IA at 980,000 from same site.
the ratio of soldiers:choppers is about the same as I said in previous post. i.e. assuming a 1.3 mil IA = 2xPA, while its really 1 mil. if the IA is 1 mil, IA has a slightly better ratio.
I dont know of APC. do you have a inventory number? mobility
is also via trucks – the cross country trucks all armies use. we dont have figures on how many trucks each army has.
Flexibility is a big concept and encompasses C3I, mobility, airpower support, road/rail infrastructure, training levels, practice exercises. It is very hard to make blanket statements on the topic.
180+85+24+mi8+25+4 = 318 + mi8 today -vs- 150 today
You can only compare today to today and tomorrow to tomorrow.
in future dhruv, more mi17-1v and some scout helos under LOH
are to be added but number & delivery rate of the second two
are unknown. more mi8/chetak/llma will also be retired.
I think the PAF inventory represents total delivered rather
than whats in use today (?) the older PAF/PA inventory will
also go away….pumas/llama/alloutte/the small bell helos..
..the new Uh1/Bells/Mi17 will take over.
the ratio seems to be about equal today, probably in future
also unless a huge order for Dhruv/LOH is placed in near future.
well ofcourse I am not looking for a flamewar here, so dont take it otherwise.
neither number is much to shout about…the US 101st airborne division is reported to have 400 helis alone 🙁
er, HAL has produced about 600 llama+alouetteIII under license.
about 50% of these probably remain in service today because
production started in 1970 and 1976 and has been continuous till date. 85 Mi17, 24 Mi24/35, unknown number of Mi-8, 25 dhruv today + 95? on order, 4 Mi26. comes to around 553+mi8. we know iaf will flog these beasts well past retirement age. am ignoring the LOH purchase proj & attrition on both sides.
from the link above and the SIPRI database
http://web.sipri.org/contents/armstrad/imp_PAK_94-03.pdf
Alouette III 12 (light)
SA 330 Puma ?? (medium)
AH-1F Cobra 20 (gunship)
Mi-8/17 ‘Hip’ 27 (medium)/per SIPRI 33
Bell 47G 12 (light)
SA-315B Lama 15 (vlight)
Hughes 300C 10 (vlight)
206B Jet Ranger 28 (light)
Commander 640 2 ?
SA-316B Alouette III 24 (light)
it adds upto 156 + #SA330 PUMA.
Adding up your list of 156 + 156 + #SA330 Puma = 312+puma.
Have any deliveries of UH-1 and AH-1 started ? I have seen news
reports on the Bells and Mi17. When is the UH1,AH1 delivery
scheduled to end ?
