Robbo and others, please read to the end without skipping and think seriously …..
I have previously refrained from commenting in this outrageous thread because it is ill informed critiscism of a number of professionals by , in the main non-pilots.
When the likes of TFC, Bruce, Bertie and Grayfly post sensible informed information it is largely ignored…..
I have seen possibly more Spitfire displays at Duxford over the last 30 years than the majority of people who post here. I have lived and worked adjacent to Duxford since 1964 until recently moving.
I feel therefore, I can comment when people are writing absolute rubbish and I can do do so with authority.
To use the phrase above as was quoted about a qualified display pilot was very nearly libellous. You cannot be surprised when such tripe is talked that owners of these fantastic aircraft become private and practice out of sight which is not good for any of us.
Compare this thread with some of the fascinating stuff we do have on this forum such as the voyage of Catalina, the photographs you or MotF, or DB post, or Snappers work and you will see why I feel we need to kill this sort of damaging postulation which has no basis in fact and does no credit to the forum. The thread itself is destructive and therefore I cannot be constructive.
Note also that by nature I am not destructive having posted over 20 pictures of warbirds in old colour schemes or of historical significance and links to video files (all be it of appalling quality o f amongst other things “Winstons ” blue note – something that cannot be heard at present from a Meteor in the UK.
Right , its Friday, I’m off for a pint or two of Adnams. Let all who have posted here leave this thread to whither away and let us look at some brilliant pictures taken over the weekend and enjoy why we come to this forum.

ps My BofB DVD hasn’t yet arrived……

“If you are a pilot and you condone dangerous flying ,well you ought to hang your head in shame.”
If by this you mean to suggest the Flying on 16th of May was dangerous I think you ought to consult your solicitor. TFC has already explained the proffessionalism with which te flying was done and in a polite way. I’ll informed posting as above is really quite a menace, where are those moderators.
Ref: Food quality, where was the mention of fish and chips (unt no soggy ones) that Mr P was presumably offered after a few sociable pints one evening??
Re: engineer expression.
I think if you look closely you will see he has a cigarette in ihis hand just ready to light…….
I’ve missed something Legends 2006 will be at Duxford?????
Correct me if I am wrong but doesn’t conventional film havea shelf life.
Potentially the pictures on this camera will have real “historical ” value!!
On the starboard side it looks like a big H and a small C ??

I was hoping to take the blame/sensationalist culture out of reporting of such incidents. It is my belief that no one intends to have a crash and that many factors are involved, the human one being part of those factors. By linking to my own experience I feel helps with this analysis.
Without being too philosophical and appreciating your connection with the Firefly accident I was hoping we could learn without the inevitable post press release reporting that happens after inquests/accident reports.
Perhaps this means we can remove the term “pilot error” when discussing incidents such as this.
I have had three car accidents when younger which were possibly my fault. I had the opprtunity to say “yup, my fault” and had licence endorsed and fined appropriately. I did not have “Driver Error” printed on my licence
If you fly an air craft and have a situation occur you do not often have the same opportunities afterwards to review the incident as a car driver may have.
No one intends to have an accident and I would prefer the phrase “human factor ” to be used. This is less damning than the use of the word “error”and something we can all identify with. I know I can.
Does this not sound a sensible way forward and perhaps helps those involved and also reduces sensationalist reporting and postings on the subject of (often tragic) incidents.
I believe we have all beeen affected by the “human factor”?
Before we drift off on a hypothetical tangent what about a bit of praise for what looks like an important and accessible collection?
It always amazes me the way we forget to pay tribute to people who spend a lot of money on these airframes. I accept they have the cash the majority of us don’t but hey, we do benefit don’t we??
20usd for a personal tour with-in a small group sounds ok to me . Especially if the collection grows. Shame it is such a long way from Suffolk (UK) though.
Monitors
JDK
Monitors and Adobe gamma.exe are important. Hence why TFT and graphics don’t mix, yet….
watched any good videos recently James??
“Now to throw a spanner in the works. The ‘blue note’ was only partly due to slipstream over the gun ports. It was also induction roar from the intakes especially when pulling up after a low pass such as a run and break”
Think I did mention that a few posts ago before the gun port lobby took over……………..
A bit of a story for you.
Sad but true I typed my business name “airgage” into the bbc search engine.
Amongst the entries was one to a site in the US ( http://warbirdsofww2.tripod.com/downloads.htm ) that included links to a whole series of aeroplane video clips I had loaded into a now redundant website. I had forgotten about them. Also funny as the guy who runs the site never asked my permission!!
Historically they are of poor quality and may or may not include sound (unlike the original footage) as they date from a time when 1mb was the limit of tolerance of any video download!! Also at this time I was experimenting with streaming video in mpeg/realplayer /avi formats. The MS wmv format was not available. Things have changed since then and if I get time I may re-compress some of my material in a better format.
Two that are currently of interest were the spitfire and the meteor blue note as published on that thread.
If you go to the above link and scroll down you will find a number of clips under a link to my site. Don’t bother with the link to the site as it now advertises my business and not aeroplanes……feel free to look at the clips though!
Chris
Daz, the point is that a film (of whatever quality/storyline) paid into the coffers of the operation of that aircraft and the buchon which was also being test flow that morning.
That has to be a good thing.
I thought as it was the first test flight of the aircraft in its film colours it had a bit of interest, whatever.
As it is a realplayer file I’d suggest real play Mr Snapper.
