To grab a still from DVD, use Power DVD in it’s latest form and their is a grab still frame function. I am sure other players have a similar function.
If you want to get really techy you can convert the DVD footage back to an avi and look at the frames in a conventional video editing package. There are freeware programs to do this….actually you could then re-edit the whole film, rerender as a dvd and…..
Mark, I hope you are happy to do the same with video at 25 fps………
I used to know exactly why it sounds as it does, after the required intake of red wine on a friday night the memory is dulled but I think it is to do with air intakes rather than gun ports….I did have some info from someone who “knows about these things”.
I think a big thank you is due to Tim for sharing his memory, log book and experience with us.
Regrds and thank you
Chris
Sounds better coming off a meteor , I have the sound on tape to prove it as well!
If you drift back here: http://forum.airforces.info/showthread.php?s=&threadid=19428&perpage=30&highlight=airgage&pagenumber=4
you will find pics of b24/cf100, sea fury etc….
I have a report from the telegragh re: the He111 remains which were lifted from a Nowegian Lake. B24 was never intended for the UK except in peoples imaginations, it was transitting when it required engine work after making an initial landing at Mildenhall.
Possibly the B24 was a significant stage in the change of DX from a static aircraft site to what it is today…….
If you do a search for a thread entitled a few old pictures or similar you will find a number of pictures posted from the ’70s including the Sea Fury/B24/etc. as referred to, somewhere I have a picture of the Rothmans line up
Think you’ll you’ll find that camera and mirror was installed in front seat.
Most of the actual parchute drops using people that were required on the DX set were done from the “He111” a/c, the polish airman for instance then landed to the rear of the airfield at Barkers farm, you can see the corner of the rear of the chateau mockup to the right of the screen in the landing shot.
I was 9 at the time and watched this from my bedroom window (in Duxford)!!
Memories
Think you will find that the two seater generally had a camera and “mirror arrangement” in the spare. The practicalities of ejecting a parachute from the second seat are pretty complex if you think about it.
I realise the photographers here won’t like it but here is a thought. Please read all the post and salient points before firing off!
Perhaps darkness/low lighting is an attempt at atmosphere.
It is difficult to show an aeroplane in a sterile museum hangar with any impact, hence why Old Warden/DX T2 hangars and DX restoration areas work.
If you have machines designed to kill people, camauflaged and often operated at night then jusy maybe it is imaginitive to put them in a darker area so that younger generations can use their imagination.
I haven’t been to Hendon recently so this is a supposition based on the comments here.
We should remember that a museum is not a location to use as a photgraphic excercise but to display artefacts. All these aircraft are well documentedin photographic form. I know it is nice to take a self-generatetd pictorial souvenir home (I have plenty myself). Ask yourself why are the aircraft in that situation and displayed?
This is a point of view , not a defence of Hendon, maybe it provokes thought on aircraft displays……..
Finally you can bet the lighting policy will be the result of a committe decision and any change would all be as aresult of a committee decision, hence the lack of response from the museum ?
How long before we spy it over East Suffolk then?
I quite liked playing spot the p.51 on Sunday afternoons.
There are some other Stearmans down here that might like to play as well.
Dave thanks for the pics, really appreciated, sort of thread we ought to have more often here.
