Ben and others, I had the frustration of working just north of DX today, I could hear engines but wasn’t able to look out of the window, great sound, great temptation and incredibly frustrating….
MMh, one of them had got lost between Framlingham and London then…………
Snapper,
Well, it will be a near run thing between that and those typhoons that are secretly being restored in Narfolk.
Dez, I’ll look up in the back issues of Fighter Log (you do subscribe to the Friends of TFC magazine don’t you) and let you know when it first arrived in the UK, unless someone beats me to it….
Dez re read the second half of your post , also consider this other post.
“il be in my 30s by the time the beau flys ,couldnt they send some of the beau to ARCO to be restored? that should cut the time down a little?”
Add that to the drivel in the Legends thread about what should or shouldn’t be included, too many mustangs or spitfires or lets have a Zero/Two FW190 or whatever…..
My point is that their is a lot of good stuff on the forum but any thread that starts “when will “X” fly is a) pointless because even the restorers probably don’t know and b) leads to speculation and rumour that then gets accepted as fact at a later date, an example being the engine scenario for the Beaufighter!
It appears just as well that TFC and the engineers have more determination, optimism and resolve than is being shown here otherwise they wouldn’t have got as far as they have with this project.
It seems there are those who get on and “do it” and those who winge about it. Every so often I get just a little fed up of meaningless threads about when will this or that fly and why don’t they do this or that.
Compare this thread to the fascinating insights into Duxfords history by people such as “LeHarve” or the positive attitude shown in the “How to make Old Warden Better” .
I guess when TFC finally get the Beaufighter airborne (as they will) half of you will be moaning that it shouldn’t be flown as it is so rare.
(As you may gather today wasn’t a good one at work!!)
Snapper, thought you might have a picture of the aforesaid flare??
Speaking personally, just make sure it happens each year without nit picking by those who don’t take the financial risk!
I am banned at home from saying “I remember when”, BUT if you remember airshows from a decade or more ago you can only be grateful for what Legends offers.
As has already been said Mr Grey and his team appreciate what WE want and strive to achieve that within the paremeters of safety and economic feasability. For that we should back what is achieved and I am sure is actually appreciated by all on this forum.
(bit of pyros would be good tho’ eh!)
Quick bump for people to note on Thursday
……………and you guys wonder why it takes so long to restore an aircraft, it has taken you nearly a year to take 24(?) pictures…..
I think therefore a lot more respect for those who make it happen with aircraft!!!!
I have a cutting from the telegraph of the day with a picture of the tail fin being raised, will a) see if I can find the cutting and b) post it!
cheers
Chris
still nice to see that channel fours’ continuity announcer didn’t flinch from his duty and managed to talk over the last 30 seconds. Bet the director who created that atmosphere for the final sequence was well impressed.
Well deserved praise for the final episode
Don’t apologise, I think they are all appreciated

more info type a/c name in google and use the picture search facility……………………..
My 1967 copy of aircraft aircraft which I got when I was 8 had apiccie on the front, always seemed like science fiction, as already said, what if…………………….
Incidently, amazing the numer fof posts between 8 and 9 on a saturday night, off for Basil and Fawlty towers now.
The point being as I s-p-e-l-l it out for you. It couuld have stayed in NZ, there is no reason apart from possibly a philanthropic one for it to be here this year. Why not appeciate the opportunity tto see the plane while it was here?
Possibly it was intended for more shows, possibly mechanical problems beyond the owners control prevented this.
Obviously owners of warbirds should consult this forum before deciding what to do with a) their aircraft and b) their money!!
