Turbo-Beaver on meat-bombing duties at Headcorn has run into one of the museum exhibits.

Bearing in mind the pilot has serious injuries not the most tactful description that could have been used.

a few years ago I uploaded this, forgot about and it is now link from someone elses site (grump over). Still if they hadn’t done that I would have lost it. I think it dates from 1999 or 2000 so video is pretty compressed as it was in days before adsl. File is real media and it is the second pass that he gets musical

I think it might be news to the IWM that the Shack was flown into DX as a flying exhibit, especially given the condition of the main spar at the time, (as with most MR 3s).

Given that the engines weren’t inhibited when it flew in your optimism may be a little misplaced in that area as well. ;).

Than you Jonathan. Please do remind those who make decisions that it is (or was) a particularly good example and is one of your oldest exhibits and one which draws interest from visitors. It was also donated in good faith having been prepared to an excellent level by the Navy.

Their is a DVD available local to that part of the world with footage and pics of various events and shows – not connected but have seen it for sale at the Debach open day- think it is available on the internet somewhere.,

No doubt the Pucara could do with some work, but it’s not been ignored as far as interpretation goes. It was part of a Falklands anniversary display in 2002.

No comment on the Sea Vixen then?

I am led to believe a picture of the item , naked will be on page 3 (Like most things which appear on page 3 of publications) of the forthcoming edition of the Friends of the Fighter Collection , Fighter Log which is drifting towards the printing presses at this moment in time. Another good reason to join FofTFC.

Just like they did with the immaculate Convair VT-29 that flew in from Mildenhall in 1975, a gift from the Us Government.

As someone who flew on that ‘plane after it arrived at DX (twice) and can remember the enthusiasm of the US service guys who brought it in I often wonder what they thought of the demise of their aircraft.

Is being at Duxford for a long time that historically significant?

Well thinking about it as the p51 now resides at Lambeth it is THE oldest museum inhabitant, pretty sure it was neck and neck with the Canberras road arrival. Also, unlike Canberra wher I believe money changed hands, the Sea Vixen was repainted by Navy before they flew it in FOC.

I was always brought up to value and treasure gifts.

Also with the history of the type and its’ predecessors at Farnborough etc. I would argue it does havea military history, if not in action.

Interesting, the last I heard the Pucara and the Sea Vixen were on the IWM disposal list as being “Insignificant”. They used a similar term in connection with the “disposal/exchange” of the Messerschmitt Me163B. I rather thought that it was a technologically significant design myself….still I’m just an aircraft engineer

Hope the Sea Vixen future is not correct, First part of the Collection to fly in under its own steam, Second or third airframe to arrive at the site (Did the Canberra precede it? Donated by Royal Navy in good faith etc. etc. (And a beautiful design as well). It is now as much a part of DX history as its’ place in Military history!

IAC161 was out at an occasion at Felixstowe yesterday and our pilot took the trouble to route back over Ray and Mark’s resting place as our own tribute to two great flyers. I’m sure they would heard the Merlin and have been saying “lower!”, and no doubt THEY would have been!

he was indeed spotted over Framlingham , thought he might have been paying respects.
