I’m a non smoker .. It’s quite alright if you know more than me on the subject, I don’t need to “know it all”; I’ll be the first to admit that I don’t know what “legends” does cost to put on, although I appreciate it may cost more than hiring a marquee for a village fete, however I don’t think patronising me is going to help me to understand the maginitude of the event , perhaps you can lend me your copy of the accounts for the event.

As you volounteered the estimate of revenue earned and your estimate was 100% out as you had omitted the balbo – and – it was using your estimated cost for a display I was not using specialist knowledge. I have no more access to costings than you do. I therefore fail to see how I was patronising you. It was simply correcting a gross underestimate of the costs involved which you were then using to substantiate the remainder of your argument. That is how misconceptions become treated as fact and need to be nipped in the bud quickly.

    I am out of here.

quoting from a “legends” video, from a couple of years ago,the fee for a single engined plane for a fifteen minute slot was £3000- I saw at least thirty planes displaying on saturday, those figures at face value would add up to nearly £100k,

If your estimated quote was correct a couple of years ago it would need to be updated and indexed to the cost of displaying an aircraft in 2006 then you need to double that figure as 30 odd aircraft go up in the balbo at the end, a second display, then you need to add on infinite other costs. Best look here http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/showthread.php?t=59969 to understand the magnitude of the the project you are trying to budget on the back of a cigarette packet!

You can offset some of the ‘extras’ such as the Flightline Walk by joining FoTFC (Friends of The Fighter Collection) for example – OK you pay £20 a year for a family subscription but it does give reduced admission prices the rest of the year should you revisit Duxford. You also get your own enclosure for the day ….

There are also more benefits, Newsletter, Friends Tent, Occasional “Events” etc.

I don’t think that today it was secret, mainly because I saw them , that there 3 or more engineers working on a p47 in order that it would display tomorrow. If you get to DX early enough on Saturday tou maybe lucky enough to see atest flight of the aforementioned aircraft.

nuf said I think. Hope you enjoy the w/e as much as I intend to.

ah, daylight. Maybe that means that here on the forum they will grumble rather than say yup, good call mate. But tomorrow they will all be happy bunnies having watched a unique and stonking display. Thanks I think that is cleared to me now.

f its aimed at my post about the p47 no guts no glory .I only posted it because its what I saw and was told.
All the people using this form know its being sold and as such this could be the last Legends for it.
Surley its best to tell people it may or not fly if they LIKE ME ARE COMING TO LEGENDS FROM AFAR AND PAYING TO GET THERE AND GET IN.
No way can it be read at a knock at any body working on it.
I like others would like to see it up .

AFAIK the aim is that the p47 is intended to fly this w/e, the pilot hopes so anyway!! What we need here isencouragement forthose guys who as ever are trying to make it happen. Not carping about unsubstantiated facts.

Not forgetting of course that a fair percentage of the ‘Numpties’ you refer to will be forking out hard earned (!?) cash in the morning to attend the show
and will almost certainly go home happy.

That doesn’t really make sense does it?

Just counted the participant list at 56/7 aircraft, most of which are on site or nearly there. You just have to wonder how many more a/c could be fitted in from a logistical point of view. So sadly some like the two seat spits have not been included this time, I guess.

Having watched the engineers still working on the p47 at 20:00 hrs and knowing what time they and others will be starting tomorrow a bit more of a “well done” and a little less of a “wouldn’t that be nice” or “I would do it this way” might be order of the day.

Hope th e sun shines tomorrow.

From the latest update here: http://fighter-collection.com/pages.php it looks as though the mk14 canopy is well in hand.

Just in case you think I only post to be negative:

I have several hand written notes from PC which always attached themselves to subscription renewals and changes of address during the WW years. A personal touch which is missing from a lot of modern life.

Another part of the Warbird institution that will be missed.

Thinking of you and your family.

Can’t help thinking that having the Shack in a pic with the others would be like having a line up of an Aston Martin DB4 and DB5 in mint condition with a crashed DB6 on the end… technically would be completing the line up but in the condition the Shack’s in it might ruin the photo!!!

Might be time to mention (again) that this airframe flew in to DX – pristine. The present condition is therefore the responsibility of the custodians of said aircraft.

If it had been rescued off the fire dump at Catterick the argument may be different.

Like I said and Moocher has inferred, management………

This discussion seems to be based around the premise that all this is spur of the moment stuff. That premise is wrong.

Flying Legends 2006 date has been known for a year. The movements into the hangar and the eventual movement of the Shack have been planned for a long time.

What seems to be missing is the knitting together of these factors to maximise publicity for the IWM, the new hangar and so on. The publicity factor, newbreaks etc. ought to being milked to the hilt by the IWM, not leaked to a select few who read specialist forii.

If done and managed properly the total cost for the operation is not increased by adding photocall opportunities. In my world it is called good management.

    ’nuff said.

Aaah takes you back to when the Shackleton first flew in (note the word “flew”). The intention to put it in Hangar 5 asap. Solution when doors didn’t open fully? Saw through the joists that stopped the doors fully opening. Often wonder if they have been fixed. Method of moving the Shack? (one of Avros finest by the way) One Nuffield tractor on right hand u/c and a wilys jeep on the left hand u/c. Sticky left hand door and health and safety didn’t worry them in those days!

Nive (Avro) York by the way.

    Taxiing, static, close-ups, interior shots….

Think you have quite a bit to learn about how movies are made even before the cgi bit.

Lets just see what is actually going to happen rather than imposing impossible wish lists on a scenario that is pre-planned and going to unfold anyway.

It occurs to me that some of you may not have read the post (above ) by Beaufighter. Read it and digest it, it is actually quite informative if you follow those simple instructions…. Looks and sounds good to me.
