MiG-31 will likely remain around 100. Apparently the latest BM order is in addition to the first batch, so the whole fleet is going to be modernized.
    Su-35 = 96
    Su-34 = 124
    Su-27SM + SM3 + M2 = 67
    MiG-29SMT = 34
    Su-24M2 = 5 Gefest&T aiframes, and anywhere from 24 to 48 M2s. More to be modernized???
    Su-30SM = 30. More expected.
    MiG-35 = ???
Su-25SM: ~50 today. Further modernization and new-build UBM purchase planned.

You have to give it to the US of A. Numbers are several multiples of 1,000s πŸ˜‰

Tor is an Almaz (originally Antey) product and perhaps may be more capable. But KBP also mentioned in their products page that the Pantsir can shoot down Precision weapons.

Is designed for AD of small-size military and industrial objects and areas against aircraft, helicopters, cruise missiles and high-precision weapons, as well as AD groups coverage while repelling mass air threats.

    http://www.kbptula.ru/eng/zencom/panz.htm

Also it seems Tor is more susceptible to jamming. The 57E6 has a higher velocity than Tor’s 9M331 (M3+ vs M2.8) with a heavier warhead. Pantsir has EO guidance as well.
    Tracked and wheeled.

The Pantsir is getting upgraded too… or flaws remedied after feedback :diablo:

I don’t know if it is ready or not but in my opinion T 50-3 should fly before it πŸ˜‰

But T-50-3 flew in November 2011, that was almost half a year ago.

What they are doing currently with the three flying prototypes has not been revealed though. Whether they are undergoing repairs, or modifications, or in the air, etc

I don’t think they will firstly fly the T 50-4 when the latest prototype waiting for the targeted flight tests! …

I didn’t quite get you there , are you saying the T-50-4 is not ready for take off yet?

I am sure one of the first few things the chase aircraft would do is train its radar on the T-50-4 :diablo:
I am sure those guys in the chase aircraft have a good idea how good the stealth shaping vs onboard X band is. They would have tried sideways, rear, front etc. πŸ™‚ Would be nice if we could know what they have to say .. :p

By the way, What can a Tunguska and Tor do which a Tracked Pantsir can’t?
Pantsir has a better missile than Tunguska:confused:

In the 2012 V day parade also only Buk, S400 and Pantsir were shown.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IBtXpxOrys0
    RS-24 also not shown.
Putin back at the helm too…

Vityaz is not S-300V4. It seems a lot of people don’t know, that Russia have two different air defenses. One is territorial (VKO an air force air defense) and the second is ground forces air defense to protect army units. VKO (air force) air defense have S-300P series, S-400, Pantsir-S1 and in near future also S-500, Vityaz and Morphei. Ground forces have S-300V series, Buk-M1/M2, Tor-M1/M2, Tunguska, Strela-10.

S-300V4 is for ground forces air defense and S-400 is for VKO. There are no problems with S-400.

That’s what I meant, The people (ruaviation) who wrote the article themselves are confused … πŸ˜€

But you can’t blame strategy page, even Russians themselves are confused.;)

    http://www.ruaviation.com/news/2012/3/12/841/

The S-300V4 systems called β€œVityaz” are intended for ground forces. They should replace the ageing S-300P and S-300PS systems. It has been reported earlier that 30 Vityaz systems will be delivered to the Russian armed forces by 2020 and they will be operated together with S-400, S-500 and Morphey air defense systems since 2015. According to the Ministry of Defense, S-300V4 is the modernization of S-300V and S-300VМ.

He just needed some urgent materials for new threads … :p . J/K

S300V4 is not the same S300V from 1970s. S300V and S400 have different roles. ABM vs SAM systems, although they have some capability overlap. S400 is successor of S300P series.

One gets the feeling that the group remains in the nomenclature of the parallel development of similar systems, inherited from the Soviet practice: the S-400 and C-300V4, “Buk-M3” and “Hero,” “Tor-M2” and “Morpheus.”

    – I would not say that this parallelism. Each set designed for specific tasks and has a particular consumer. They are not perfect analogues, and they have a different purpose, so that the MoD and ordered all of these systems. It is only from the standpoint of the layman the impression that there is duplication.

me thinks they should’ve just made their own original MiG-21 derivative. Just slap on a turbofan.. either F404 or RD-93 which ever flavor they want. an Israeli radar like this or an AESA one

and boom, you get a new airframe that’s cheap yet a proven lineage and up to date avionics for a point defense role. Its what the Chinese have been doing and they did it well, although their derivatives focused more on agility than avionics with that small nose non-BIS design and angled wings. India could go the other way or attempt both!

Russia never really made a true successor to the MiG-21. a shame really.

a la JF 17. On the other hand just get the JF 17. πŸ˜€ Economy of scale, made in china.

The 4th prototype will enter High-G load stress testing as soon it has passed the initial factory test clearance.

This should be the most interesting, if true. The expansion of the flight envelope.
I still am wondering where the hell are they using that honeycomb composite rigging?

The Tejas has been dragging on for too long, how useful would it be when it goes into FOC. By the time a few squadrons could be raised it would have been 2016-17. Get more Rafales and Su 30 MKI Super 30. The focus should be shifted to the next project. It already succeeded as a demonstrator.

Where are the Wind tunnels, Super compute environments, Modelling SW, CAD/CAM design teams, Materials tech ..etc?? I don’t suppose they have been sleeping all this while during the Tejas development.
