Rafale contract expected to be for Rs 70,000 crore

    That’s around 14 Billion USD. 😮
With the IAF expressing a desire for further force augmentation the number could change.

    Thanks eagle1

Can’t say the same for those claiming and counter claiming some islands however.

Had the PAK FA been based on the Berkut it would have been a really large aircraft. Lots of fuel, long range, big payload, big radar, S duct, etc. But cost could be pretty high and rate of manufacture could be low too.

I would hope so, it came like 2 decades later.

Indeed. Rafale and Gripen have been in service for almost 1 and half decades. A more relevant comparison could be made with the IAF Tejas . But it looks like the Indians are going to quickly move over to Tejas MK2 and AMCA rather than induct the Tejas in numbers and upgrade. However the Tejas is still undergoing successful trials for almost a decade now and it looks like the successful trials are not going to end anytime soon.;)

A basic comparison of the two aircraft in question:

    Thunder:

    Length: 14.93 m (49 ft])
    Wingspan: 9.45 m (31 ft, including 2 wingtip missiles)
    Height: 4.72 m (15 ft 6 inches)
Wing area: 24.4 m² (263 ft²)
Empty weight: 6,586 kg (14,520 lb)
    Maximum speed: Mach 1.8

    Gripen:

    Length: 14.1 m (46 ft 3 in)
    Wingspan: 8.4 m (27 ft 7 in)
    Height: 4.5 m (14 ft 9 in)
Wing area: 30.0 m² (323 ft²)
Empty weight: 6,800 kg (12,600 lb)
    Maximum Speed: Mach 2

How reliable are these specifications from PAC (Pakistan Aeronautical Complex)?

    http://www.pac.org.pk/jf17.html#

    Length: 49 ft
    Wingspan: 31 ft
    Height: 15.5 ft
    Empty weight: 14,520 lb
    Maximum speed: Mach 1.6
    G Limit : +8/-3

How does the F117 generate enough lift with such small wings with large sweep angle? It does not look like the other parts of the aircraft contribute to lift. Can anybody explain?

Any word on replacing the Zaslon with an AESA?

    Surely its in the pipeline…?

Good capability upgrade using existing technology with minimal outlay.

With such a massive nose on the MiG 31, the TR count could be pretty high. Plus the huge airframe could accomodate better cooling solutions. Add a long range AAM and it could stick around for some more time patrolling the huge expanse of Siberia.

I think this thread is being derailed simply because some specific individuals, often of a particular national persuasion think its okay to troll around on a thread that has nothing to do with them.

Despite the attempted sarcasm, the JF-17 and the Gripen are very comparable planes.

All facts have been provided by the OP himself here, page 13 onwards…

    Nobody is presenting anything new.
The OP would disagree with you that the JF-17 and the Gripen are comparable. JF-17 with DSI clearly …

Don’t forget that the integration of Mach 7 PL-12D Ramjet shooting out to 350 km capable of engaging 15 G LO targets is going on as we speak. Plus the fact that thousands of JF-17 can be manufactured per month which other companies like LM (with BAe, Northrop Grumman, Cassidian, etc) are struggling to make 2000 across 5 years.
Airforces worldwide cower in fear at the thought of a Generation Zwei JF-17. Thunder Indeed.:eek:
