Nice one Keltic. Enjoy your ride on the 380. As for your question regarding weather in that part of the world. Well Singapore is only a stones throw from the equator, and therefore maintains a steady 30 degrees or so all year round. Those rain showers are refreshing.

The deal you mention with Emirates sounds like a good find, with the return segments in Business. If your willing to pay the premium its the obvious choice, as long as the schedual fits your plans. Never flown BA in WT+, but a buddy of mine flew it recently on the red eye home from JFK and didnt really rate it. Also Lufthansa are slowly introducing PTVs in Eco long haul, but its still a bit of a gamble if its important to you to have a PTV.

Hi. If you have to fly coach with any airline, you wont go far wrong with Singapore Airlines. Some say there standards are slipping somewhat, but my experiences with them are very good indeed. As for Air France i regard them as a polar opposite to SQ. As a general rule any major airline based is Asia will offer you a much more pleasant flight.

I found out quite a cool “trick” with my scanner just after i moved house. If i sit the scanner on my window ledge, with the aerial against the window frame i get much better reception, and also i think added range? I can get 2way conversations with Manchester controll (IIRC) using this method from my house in Halifax, which i guess to be 35miles from MAN as the crow flies. My guess is the window frame acts as some kind of big aerial??

    Awsome shots PMN…

The AA 767 looks really imposing, and im loving the detail of the PIA 777 main gear. Its been ages since i had a visit to “southside”. Love that spot, with all the noise and close up action.

    Hi UPSMD11F.

Yea that particular trip was back in April 2006 if i recall.

As far as my thoughts on Warsaw, well i never left the airport, and it was dark by the time i landed so i cant really give an opinion. The airport was good though, if a little inefficient. I remember big lines at security and a very long bus transfer to a remote stand. I must say though, LOT were very good, and a very nice aircraft too.

I have had many great day trips, my most memorable and varid was my first ever Mileage Run.

I took a F-100 from Manchester to Zurich with Helvetic. Then onto a A320 with Swiss to Austria where I had a few hours to kill. After this I flew onto Warsaw with Tyrolean on one of there CRJ-200s. After a very brief stop in Poland it was back to MAN with LOT on one of there E-170s. I think the day trip was about 14hrs either on planes or in airports. Perfect!!!!!!

Excellent shots Paul. Good to see some variation in traffic at any local. I dont get over to LBA much at all (as near as it is to my house), but used to watch aircraft getting vectored for approaches onto 32 as they flew right over my house.

That is some major downslope on 32 shown in your first picture!!!! How much runway did it use up on rollout?

That was exactly the reason the 747’s were pulled from the MAN route, but it was only the 747’s that were banned. The A310’s still fly to the UK. 🙂

    Paul

    Ah right.Thanks for the info.

Might have a trip across with the camera to catch it also.

Exelent to hear that LBA will be getting more interesting traffic.

Now correct me if im wrong (most probably will be) regarding the equipment to be used,i was of the understanding that all PIAs fleet, except there 777s were banned from UK and European airspace as of March 2007 (i think)? as they failed to meet safety criteria? I thought this was the reason they pulled the 747s out of MAN. Again i may be wrong in thinking this Apollogies if so

Yea, more bad news for this once great airline. Things are just getting worse and worse for them.
I used to have a real soft spot for SAS, and even when they started to turn into what is basically now a low cost airline, I still enjoyed the experience. Now though, I have pretty much pulled the plug on using them. I still enjoy the MD-80s but that’s about all.
I wonder if LH will get involved? They seem to have good results with turning round failing airlines, and continue to make a handsome profit even in these days of mega bucks fuel prices.
It’s a shame to see this airline slip. All the stories in the “good old days” of SAS being THE Company to work for if you lived in Scandinavia, and being so proud to be part of the team. To now, where arguing, striking and union rule seem to be the main focus.

Yea really like those Si. The BA 752 on approach stands out as one of my favourites.

I wonder if this would have been allowed to happen if e.g. BMI had been the airline moving to T5? Just another sign of the world revolving around BA at LHR.

Fair enough for BA, they are in a bit of a situation at the moment so it suits them to delay the move, but to delay the whole programme with no consultation or consideration for other airlines is just plain wrong in my opinion.
