Davide and Strales is the same system. Finmeccanica has probably changed the name as it did with EH-101, which has become AW-101.
One other possibility is that David is only the name of the MMI program while Strales the commercial name, as with the missile Teseo which is known as Otomat on international market.
What? I don’t understand what you mean.
The system Davide/Strales is compatible with all Oto 76/62 already sold
Anyone know if OTO-Melara Davide will be fitted to the 76mm guns?
Surely it’s refittabile (there is yet the predisposition) for Doria and Cavour while native for FREMM.
Otomelara indicates backwards with all the 76/62 active in the world
@ enrr:
Your site about the Andrea Doria class is a very useful reference for modelling!
Do you found photos showing the TESEO launchers?
Unfortunately the links to Andrea Doria’s photos under the title “Photo by Lvb of Doria from Livorno, 02-18-2008” are not working.
Thanks you for reporting, I will correct as soon as possible
You can find the photo on my album
http://picasaweb.google.it/mezzimilitariitaliani
under Doria folder.
You can found the same Teseo launcher on De La Penne class because at the moment it isn’t onboard Doria class
The Italian Cavour is designed to be a carrier, not a LHD.
Cavour was a LHD since few moth before the first steel cut. Indeed hangar can accomodate MBT and have 2 ramp by 60 tons. At the last second Marina Militare change the project from LHD to an enlarge CVS to accomodate JSF. Now Cavour can carry up to about 400 marines and operate as LPH.
How many LIghtning IIs will the Cavour carry?
The number is not sure, but typically from 12 to 16 plus about 8 to 10 EH-101 (3 101-HEW). In emergency I think Cavour can carry up to 20 F-35B but with 6/7 EH-101.
Here (link) you can find a variable gif with a lot combination of air group
Cavour can carry fuel for about 150-180 sorties of F-35B in stealth mode plus fuel for helicopter.
Italy haven’t isle in the middle of ocean, Cavour is a good ship for Mediterranean operation.
Italy has GG and will soon have Cavour, one in and one out
the French are using Big-E when CDG is in dry dock i can’t find the arctical though, and not all the Rafs are deploying just a few aircraft
Cavour is half in, it can operate AV-8B and EH-101 but it’s systems aren’t complete. System can operate only basic defence. FOC on april 09
About 6-8 Rafale and 2 E-2F are going to train in July 2008 aboard the USS Roosevelt off Norfolk.
Thursday March 27, 2008 was officially commisioned the aircraft carrier Cavour. The fully operational capability (FOC) and delivery of the combat flag is planned for April 2009
Its an interesting sign of how maxed out Indian shipyards are at the moment, I wouldn’t be surprised if the deal includes the option to build further units in an Indian yard.
Fleet tanker for India
Local news (internet or magazine) said there is an option for a second ship and the first ship will be delivery in 24 month.
The Italian navy said this month that it is studying 2 logistical support ship (LSS/AOR). The choice probably will fall on something similar to the Indian ship or the AOR based on LHD proposed by Fincantieri.
Cavour is multi-purpose because in the 1998/9 the project had the well-dock and 620 marines with a displacement of 22.000 tons and 25 knot with CODAG.
At the last second, in 2000, Marina Militare turn for the N-time the project to semi-pure STOVL because Italy enter in JSF project and, then, delete the well dock and the displacement was gone to 27.000 for the larger F-35B instead Harrier. Another aspect of the exchange was likely that a multi-purpose platform by 22 ktons would not have done good air operations nor amphibious. They are, however, remained ramps from 60 tonnes for hangar/garage and 325/400 marines
Cavour is expensive because it have the last electronic innovation (SAAM-it, EMPAR, Aster), a larger C4I, 4 TAG for 28+ knot, pure military standard. A true aircraft carrier for 24+ F-35B/AW-101.
It is not an economic ferry disguised as LHD/CVE (guess what I mean?)
No, I don’t know that… According to my knowledge, Italians only built Garibaldi and Cavour plus converted two/three commercial liners back in 1920. Russians had three Moskva class and four Kiev class aircraft carrying cruisers plus two Kuznetsow-class TAKR carriers (one uncomplete) and started another two carriers of Ulyanovsk class.
We rebuilt only to cruiser in the 1940, 1 in CV and 1 in CVE, but never enter in service. The CV, Acquila, it was at the end of rebuilding on sep. 8, 1943.
The most experienced of embarked aviation has been gained over the last 18 years with active participating in many missions such as Somalia, Kosovo and Afghanistan

There is one reason if we help indian for their IAC on design (a STOBAR Cavour) and propulsive plant (4 LM2500 TAG)
For example?
Self defence for example
Cavour: 32 Aster 15 + 2 76/62 Oto with Dart system for antimissile + 3 25 mm Oto KBA + SCLAR for antimissile + SLAT anti torpedo
Vikramaditya: 8 CADS-N-1 Kashtan CIWS
or AirGroup

V: 12/16 Mig-29K + 6 Ka-31

V: 600 milion $ + unknow milion (Russia want 1,2 bilion) $ only for refurbishment
Crew:
C: accommodation for 1210 people, including 451 crew, 203 for the air group, 140 for the command complex (C4I) and 416 (325 +91) for the San Marco regiment (italian marines) or the new Forza di Proiezione dal Mare (FPM – Force projection from the sea)
V: 1,200-1,600 (including air group)
Command:
C: The center can provide capacity Control, Command, Communications, Computers and Information (C4I), the command center is spread out over an area of more than 1100 m2 and has more than 150 workstations on which they can operate up to 230 people to manage naval, air and amphibious operations. Given the large, it was decided to place the center under the flight deck to reduce the size of island to the minimum.
