I think its a sad day for the UK Aviation Industry. The last thing we are actually world class at in aviation and we sell it to some second rate European nation.
Uh, as far as I understand Ferrovial is not a country, but a corporation. Anyway, it hurts to be considered “some second rate European nation” I´m proud of my country and I don´t see it as a second rate european nation nor as a super power. I don´t have problems with Vodafone having a big presence here in Spain, so I can´t see the problem with a spanish corp purchasing BAA stocks.
No way, Principe de Asturias is more beatiful… :diablo:
If you continue making Harry Potter movies thousands of people from around the globe will keep trying to get to your country in order to check is the UK has a school of sorcery.

Why, it is always good to have a second source of supplies or become too dependent without that. ‘Buy European’, where you can vote and Spain has influence.
For me the problem with my goverment comes from the warnings they received from the Bush administration about the sale and technology transfer issues. Why is necessery to bother the americans making the deal anyway. Ok, now we can swap to european tech for radars, FLIRS and so, but why not swapping to european from the beginning?
Selling european aircraft is always good news, really, specially for me (I´ve received yesterday a job offer from EADS, with job located at Seville, where 235,295 are built, and A400 soon) but maybe this deal has ruined the chances for the deepwater program, which is very very tempting.
You can agree or disgree with the US, but nowadays is very important to have good relations with them.
As far as I know Iberia is going to use the new terminal, as all the airlines in oneworld alliance will do. The terminal is opening on February 5th, just one day before you arrival, I think it will be fully operational by the 9th of Feb so your flight to Argentina will begin from there.
I don´t know about Easyjet, just a guess, they are not going to use the new terminal.
The new terminal is almost entirely reserved for oneworld alliance, which in Madrid means a lot of Iberia around T4.
BTW, departing from T4, taxying is much shorter than from the old terminals because the common runway configuration is 33L for landings and 36L for take off.
🙂 (groan)
The new terminal is HUGE, passed through Barajas in October and it was almost complete. The use of colour in the exterior paintwork is also erm…interesting.
Funny, from memory the extension to line 8 opened just before the 2000 general elections.
Yes, I think so, but this is the extension to the new terminal, which is a few kilometers further.
Mmm, somewhere in southern France, maybe La Rochelle

Yes, it´s going to be an underground station, the idea is to extend the underground from the old terminal station. The regional goverment intention is to finish it in 14 months or so, just in time for the elections :diablo:
In fact, the undeground extention for the new terminal was planned long time ago, but that was when the regional and national goverment were ruled by the same party, after the elections they had to spend a lot of time to agree again. This is because AENA (the airports and air navigation authority) depends from the infrastructure ministry but the public transport in Madrid region is managed by the regional gov, and no one wanted to pay alone the bill for the underground. The solution has been to give the contract to a private company, which will charge the regional gov for each transported passenger. But don´t worry, you won´t notice the difference, the same ticket for all the transport network will be used.
Take a look at this project, as far as I know is going to be freeware, It covers all the islands and looks wonderful!
Almost forgot, It´s not available yet, but it´s going to b released soon according to the web.
It opens on February 5, it was scheduled for January 29 but without any reason or explanation it was delayed. I´ve heard it´s related to the new automated baggage handling system, which is very complex and still has problems deciding what to do with your bags :diablo:
Look at these pics if you are interested, It´s going to be a big improvement for Barajas, I have been there while it was being built and it´s impressive, the new tower which have been in service for three or four years is very nice too.
I´m thinking about changing my 9600xt for a X800 or a X850 (AGP versions), they´re expensive but the damn FS need a very powerful hardware. Maybe it will be my present from the three wise men (we get the present´s on january 6 here in spain).
Stumpy Doofleer, try with a 9600XT, it´s the card I´m using now and it´s enough to run FS, you won´t be able to use the sim with 100% graphic quality however but it must be cheap nowadays.
Great pics! nice to see the FIO fleet in a foreigner forum. By the way, they are moving to Getafe airport (close to madrid too) in a few years
