RE: Halloween!!
Here in northwest Spain (Galicia) we´ve a very curious legend.
It was supposed that, if during November 1st night you were out in the street you could meet with the “Santa Compana”, a ghost parade. I guess just the ghosts of the local sinners, good people should go to heaven.Anyway, this vision was a signal: you will die soon
It sounds funny today but 30 years ago, in a small town, with fog, it was a very serious story.People avoided being out on this night.
I guess keltic can tell you about this story much better than me!!!

Jorge

Just water condesation I think
RE: Laser apparatus on airliners
It could be because of the different kind of wiring and systems, the sampe plane but different versions. But actually I think the cause is that different airlines, different rules.
RE: Novel trouble….again
Ummm, that´s very similar to a computer game “Red Alert”, in which someone travels to the past to kill Hitler and so to avoid WWII, when he returns there´s a global war in Europe between the Soviet Union and The Allies. It is a very cool game, the second part of of “command & conquer” in fact.

Those kind of machines create an electro-magnetic field, so they could be a danger if used in-flight (interference with the plane electronic systems, communications, etc.), of course they are less dangerous than items such as tlephones.
RE: How old are you?
This is my first post since… I can´t remember, too much time. I´ve been having problems with the internet during summer but now I´m back in my college in Madrid so I´ve a good connection again.
Anyway, I guess this tread is good for introducing myself to the new members.
I´m 21 and I´m from Spain, althought my home town is Cacabelos (5000 people) in northern Spain, nowadays I´m living in Madrid, where I´m studying aeronautical engineering (fourth course).

RE: Morocco invades Spain
It´s all about Ceuta and Melilla, this island is just a rock in the middle of the sea, but the meaning of moroccan troops there (when the island´s sovereignty was under discussion) without spanish reaction was that the next step would be Ceuta and Melilla, and that would mean a real war, as no goverment could leave those cities without breaking our constitution.
A lot of people in this forum are british, what would you feel if Argentina invaded one of many inhabited small islands around the Flaklands, just a rock but… I guess the UK armed forces would do something even before the time we waited for Morocco to leave.
Anyway, you have to understand that in Spain, Morocco is seen by many as the traditional enemy (I don´t konow if they are our enemy but for sure they are our main source of problems in these days)
Well, I still think a war is unthinkable, and with compulsory military service finished two years ago (I missed it just for one year) I wouldn´t like to serve in Africa.

RE: Morocco invades Spain
Well, long time since I last wrote in this forum, I´m on holiday on my home town without a good internet connection so I don´t use the net very often. But with all this problem about a small island with morocco I´ve decided to share my point of view with you.
I don´t know if the island is spanish or not, this is of course a matter of international laws and diplomacy so it´s not possible to assure anything. But in the other hand, Morocco knew the island wasn´t recognised by Spain as part of Morocco´s land, so sending there 12 policeman doesn´t seem to be a clever decission. With troops in the island (yesterday, the police was replaced by royal marines), no “normal” negotiation can be made.
Today I´m worried, it´s difficult to imagine a war between Spain and Morocco (the strait of Gib is too important to cut it with a conventional war, and of course the US won´t allow that happen) but we´ve to remember the fact that the king of Morocco still has absolute power over his country and people, althought they have elections, the main ministers are chosen by the King and no important decission can be made without his permission so if he gets up tomorrow morning in a bad mood we may have a hot situation.
Because of this I´m not sure if the military action is a rigth way of solving all this mess, moroccan reaction is unforseeable.

RE: Humour
This is another version of the same story, I believe it´s just an urban legend but it´s still funny:
“Presumably you know that aerospace companies often fire chickens at test aircraft canopies to see how they would stand up to flying through a flock of birds during takeoff? This is true of British Aerospace also, however one time it went wrong.
Just before lunch, the engineers set up the chicken-cannon, loaded a frozen chicken into it, and left for the canteen. The chicken would be just about defrosted by the time they got back to do the test. When they came back, they got behind the protective wall, started the high-speed cameras (to play back in detail what happens), and fired the chicken at the canopy. Normally, it should just bounce off, or make a nasty dent. This time, the canopy was destroyed. Bits everywhere. Having checked the cannon, and looked through the (expensive) wreckage, they decided to view the film, to see if it would provide any clues. It did. During lunch, a cat had climbed into the cannon, lured by the smell of fresh chicken, became part of the test. “
I got it from http://www.snopes2.com/, you can find really cool stuff about urban legends.

RE: ATC Strike
Two days ago (19) ATC controllers from France, Portugal and a few more countries went on strike, I don´t know if they are preparing another one but I´s very typical of french air controllers to go on strike in very critical days, an so collapsing all the air traffic in Europe.
