I keep seeing direction signs around Milton Keynes (where I work) with the legend “MINI SHOW” – shouldn’t that just be abbreviated to “GLIMPSE” ???
😀
…. and the noise comes out of this end – hey where’s everyone gone?
Hey EN830,
I believe that some of them were even held together with wooden battening 😀
The Opera House in Dresden.
Taken in March 2004 with my Canon Ixus 300 ….
Flash?
😮
Hmm I’m not really a great lover of flash photography – much prefer naturally lit subjects. I suppose that I tend to consider the flash as just a necessary evil?
Thanks you lot – very helpful!
Oh ! ……
Wait a moment I’ve just realized…..
(how’s this for suspense? 😉 )
This’ll be my 50th post then! Hurrah for me!! :p
Thanks you lot – very helpful! 🙂
Thanks Chaps!
Some good points made.
At present I have a Canon Ixus 300 (Digital) and an old (1980’s) Minolta X300 with a selection of Tamron lenses. I purchased the Ixus (2/3 years ago) just to have “something” digital that I could slip into my pocket for snapping (Oooerr missus!) but now I miss using the old SLR so have decided that I’ll have to stump up for some new bits’n’bobs.
My planned purchases are either the Eos D300 or Nikon D70 complete with the standard supplied lens, I also intend to purchase a telephoto zoom of circa 80-200/300mm.
The aspect of focal length ratio isn’t of prime concern to me.
The next question is having purchased said DSLR I may consider a second hand telephoto zoom – which one (Canon/Nikon) would give me the greatest scope for used lenses?
Just a thought…
When at an airport we’re always informed that “any unattended bags will be removed &/or destroyed” – wouldn’t it be a good idea to enforce this “rule” at an airshow (not just Legends) – i.e. any unattended windbreaks, stepladders or other paraphernalia that is going to get in the way of the rest of us should be removed? – Surely this could be justified (as most things are these days) as being for the security of us all?
Walking past the Land Warfare Hall on Saturday morning circa 10:30 I spotted a row of four collapsible chairs completely unattended on the grass bank.
Also a couple of years back I spotted a stepladder padlocked to the fence. I think these people should know better. Also if they’re made to carry all of their stuff around for the day it may make them re-evaluate exactly what & why they’re taking these things to an airshow?
Moggy,
Are you implying that without airshows the owners of these beautiful airplanes would not be able to survive? Perhaps you should turn the question around? If there were no airshows in the UK would there be a “warbird” presence? I personally think that there are those fortunate souls who will always own & operate these airplanes regardless of the cost &/or the availability of a revenue source such as Legends. That is not to say that the public attending such a show shouldn’t contribute if for no other reason than to show their appreciation.
In reply to Steve 964: I feel that I must agree pretty much in general with your sentiments. (That’ll get them going eh?! :p )
The Praise:
1, Agree – after reading the recent horror stories on this forum I decided to leave early, hence got in with no problem.
2-5 agree!
The criticism :
1, The flightline – can’t comment anymore than refusing to pay £4.00 on top of my £25.00 – which may seem “tight” but multiply that by four?
2, Didn’t notice the commentator too much – had scanner earpiece in.
3, Agree entirely – however made a point of standing immediately to the right of this & was rewarded with pretty clear view all the way down the flightline. – Although I would have to question the logic in cordoning off the grass in front of the grandstand – surely the whole reason of a grandstand is to enable its occupants to see over the heads of the people in front?
Further points – Food a rip off (not just price but quality)- but then I suppose that’s my own fault for not bothering to bring my own. I Think in future I’ll make “Leg-Ends” a Bi-annual event & concentrate more on Old Warden where I don’t feel that I’m just another “cash-cow” to be milked.
PS: warbirdUK “how much do you think it costs to put on an event like that?” is no defence, the bleak reality is that if you p##s off the public they will vote with their feet & either go elsewhere (bad) or not bother at all (worse).
As THE Premier event of it’s type Flying Legends DOES have a responsibility (like it or not) to promote aviation on behalf of the smaller venues for the masses.
What’s this – a thread about Ann Summers?
Err ……
mine’s the flag of the British Colony of Hong Kong.
Nothing to do with being all nationalistic or anything – it’s just the flag of my birthplace & time (1961 – “old git”).
Not the new flag because that just wouldn’t have been right.

Hmm let me see –
I’ve got to fly STN – DTM
My choices are as follows …..
Easy Jet:
No seat number
No free snack
No free drink
Air Berlin
Seat number
Free roll
Free drink
Cost – I recently flew STN-DTM – £68 rtn with AB
STN-EDN – £105 rtn with EJ
A “no brainer” decision I think?
Hey T5
Sorry to hear about your experience with BA!
I had a “lost luggage experience with Lufthansa a few years back – they were very good about it, luggage was “taxi-ed” to my hotel in Germany after 24Hrs. Also got a choice of either Dm100 in cash or Dm300 Lufthansa voucher; I took the latter & ended up with some nice luggage & bits’n’bobs worth aprox DM298!
Try flying with either Sleazy Jet or Brian Air (now they don’t care, it’s customer service by numbers!) – BA cannot be that bad!
