Hardly hush hush from the Scampton Site…….
Introduction: Air defence for the United Kingdom is performed by the UK Air Surveillance And Control System (ASACS), through the Chief Of Staff Operations, for Strike Command.
Within the ASACS, the CRC, or Control and Reporting Centre, performs two functions; the first is to produce a Recognised Air Picture of the UKโs airspace and the second is to police that airspace, scrambling fighters where necessary to intercept and identify any aircraft that are deemed to be suspicious.
To bridge the gap between the old ASACS system and the new NATO ACCS system due to be online around 2012, the UK Air Defence Ground Environment (UKADGE) Capability Maintenance Programme (UCMP) was born and IBM won the contract to supply the interim computer system at two locations. The CRC at RAF Boulmer is the first of these new CRCs which has been operational since July 2004 and the second CRC was created here at RAF Scampton and came online in January 2006.
The CRC currently employs approximately 150 personnel who are either Fighter Controllers or Engineers and is housed in a building which was used to brief the โDambusterโ Squadron prior to their historic raid in World War II.
Ive read on UKAR that the Raspberry Ripple Jag is being rebuilt as they have 2 at Cranwell 1’s already being rebuilt while the others outside waiting its turn.

No I dont it was something electrical but cant remember what they said.Sorry Mate
They interviewed the aircrew as I was leaving on airshow fm and they said they couldve flew the aircraft but everything has to be 100% safe to fly the display no point risking it.If it had been a time of war It wouldve flew.
How far away from Bruntingthorpe is not that far away? Apart from RAF bases and East Midlands airport, can’t think of anywhere suitable for a Vulcan relatively close to Brunty
Ok not that close Its not East Midlands or Coventry or Leicester somewhere with proper FOD control and fire cover not that these airports dont have this somewhere used to seeing a Vulcan now and again.Ive been told its just at the tart of the planning stage but if it comes off is another matter thats why im not saying to much about it.:p
[QUOTE=Ritch & Max;.
I am also lead to belive that she will soon be leaving Bruntingthorpe for good, but no one will say were to. The present hangar is wanted for other business.
Just rumours, but from a very sound source.[/QUOTE]
I dont post very often but ive heard there are plans to build a hanger somewhere else not that far away from Bruntingthorpe to house 558 and this is also from a good source.

Shes not been scrapped yet as ive been working up the road from it and its still in 1 piece.
I like to see 558 display at Scampton then taxi round and be pushed back into empty hanger 1.It should be based here loads of room ATC and Firecover ๐
