Gentlemen, I have attached a picture of a Skyvan from Ciskei. Can anybody tell me what the legend in white under the windshield says? .

From memory; “The Sky’s the Limit”.

The reasoning behind the retractable probe on the export-only Mirage F1A remains a mystery. This was a cheaper, ground attack optimized Mirage F1 with less complex avionics that was sold to only two countries, Libya and South Africa, neither of which had refueling tankers at the time!

South Africa used the “buddy” refueling system with Buccaneer aircraft, which was used quite extensively. Later on of course it was the B707.

Actually, they’re KE-3s from Saudi Arabia. There was a deployment of neatly camouflaged Tornados until early last week at Lossie.

You can read all about it in the latest AFM 😉

Angolan MiG-17s in 1976, from lajiribilla.co.cu. These are in their original natural metal finish with Angolan colours on the lower tail fin, black serial and anti-slip wing strips

Now that is a rare find! Well done!!

Does anybody have information about this Dauphin 2 from Congo-Brazzaville? They apparently have only one. The picture is rather murky, and if anyone has further details about the color scheme and the fuselage serial number, I would really appreciate it.

Capt. Shawn McCaughey was lost when his CT-114 Tutor jet crashed near a Montana air force base during a show rehearsal May 18. The report, released Monday, said McCaughey lost control of the aircraft when his lap belt unfastened while he was flying inverted.

“Initial analysis has determined that the pilot’s lap belt became unfastened when SB No. 2 rolled inverted, causing the pilot to fall out of his seat and lose control of the aircraft,” the report states.

The investigation is now focusing on why.

Time to rebuild some more of the ex SAAF cache of Puma methinks.:(

18 months behind schedule with loads of problems! Two enter service and five lost, not very good odds me thinks! Time for something a bit more drastic, like a new fleet!!

Yes I read it using balloon as decoy come on in the real world do you believe that the opposing force will use balloon as decoy?

You’ll be amazed at what an effective tool the old weather balloon is !?

Just wondering: is he multi-lingual, or English-only? 8)

I speak English and Afrikaans with a little Tagalog but hope not to use this on an English forum 😉

Put one of these little beauties in your hand sans lens and compare it with say a Sony Alpha body then you, like me will not be sanguine about the similar longevity of that latter, especially under similar conditions of use. I suspect that most SLRs of recent years (excepting the like of the Dynax 9) will be similarly challenged.

I know where you are coming from but weight does not equate to “longevity”!
The Dynax 9 in my experience was an expensive piece of rubbish. My cameras take a lot of bashing about during my travels and my Sony Alpha has already out lived the Dynax 9 which has a very flimsy mirror box.

I think digital is a great replacement for slides but I still prefer wet film for prints.

I some how think that film will be with us longer than Jessops.:diablo:
