Apparantly the wiring and cabling for the Shrikes were from the defuncted Skybolt nuclear missile. The Brazlians kept the remaining Shrike. XM597 is now at the Royal Scottish Museum.

Air Force Commander Gen. Col Strelnikov and Commander Onyshenko were dismissed. The flights ground control leader was jailed for criminal negligence.
The official accident investigation concluded that the cause was ‘pilot error’ and the failure of officials to plan and execute the show in a safe manner.

Whilst technical failure was rejected, from video footage, it certainly appears that the aircraft suffered a compressor stall on the port side during a tight left turn which torqued the aircraft around, nose-down. This followed by strong positive pitch input during recovery which over-rotated the aircraft. Basically, they had insufficient height to recover from an engine stall, if this is what occured.

    RE: Any good African airlines?

Inter Air still use the B707 from JNB, both for charter and schedule. It was going to be used by Aero Zambia before the Zambian government kicked them out. Sun Air has resumed operations. Currently flying from Lanseria to Cape Town with DC-9 aircraft. Nationwide still operate quite a few Bac-111’s.
