    RE: Superstition in airlines

Personally I do like the number 13 as my mother, my daughter and myself are born on the 13th. Do not get this row 13 crap, start counting when you enter the airplane and one thing for sure:

there is no free space where you would expect row 13!

Just might be called row 14.

Is there enough fuel available in PHC (or in Nigeria in general)for refuelling for the return flight?
KLM flies to Abuja since a couple of months and extra unscheduled fuelling stops have happened several times already.

The darker blue is minimised, that’s why I prefer the old c/s, it is now going more towards one/two colour(s)

    RE: KLM New Livery

Would defenitely not like orange as an extra colour, to screaming I think. KLM is more a “conservative” airline, “a smart follower” (a quote which has been used by the management), reliable and comforting is more the case than daring. In a way most national carriers have quiet conservative c/s.

    RE: KLM New Livery

I do like KLM’s blue and each KLM-employee has a blue heart, some of them might become to arrogant about that though, but this new livery does not really attract me. I still like the different colours, dark blue is less and white is gone. All this to be able to give the logo bigger space is to much for me, isn’t there a very nice logo on the tail already?

RE: Air Marshalls on U.K Flights

One side effect on cowboys on board I have not heared yet. Personally I think this is over reacting, how many flights every day and how many where these cowboys might be of use? Flying has been the safest way of transport for a long time and no crazy bunch (like the lunatics on 11-9) can do anything about it. In a way we are giving in to lunatics and we are defenitely not helping airlines with there economics. One or two marshalls on board a 747 or any plane with more than say 100 seats have an influence already on yield. What are we going to do to our Regional Operators like Eastern Airways with their Jetstreams? A 19 seater would mean only 18 seats to be sold as you have the marshall, less and less destinations will become profitable to fly on or prices would have to go up! Do we really want that??? 🙁

RE: Revamp at BA spreads to regional operations

As Dutchy I’am not that well informed about the history of flights to Britsh Regional Airports but I “like” Carl727’s point.

Within the Netherlands KLM served all regional airports at one point in history. Every now and than flights were looked at and skipped. After KLM leaving several times already new Regionals started operating those flights succesfully. When those regionals became to big though KLM took them over as they were becoming a thread. After a couple of years flights were stopped again and …… Is this something which happened in the UK as well?

Goodjet in trouble, the story continues

According to the Swedish newspaper “Dagens Nyheter” SMI Media has requested bankrupty of Goodjet. In the article Goodjet claims “we know nothing about this”. HAHA, I doubt it and what is said on their own website:

“Alicante passengers pick-up friday the 13th Dec!
Goodjet has chartered a DC10 which will fly to Alicante and pick up passengers returning to Scandinavia.
The aircraft will fly from Murcia San Javier-flygplatsen to Göteborg where busses will be waiting for transfer to Malmö/Sturup, Oslo/Torp and Stockholm/Arlanda.

The departure is planned for 12.00 and will be landing at 15.50 (local time).

    Note!
As adjustments in the timetable may happen and we recommend all passengers to be in the airport in good time as the check in procedures for this large aircraft takes longer time than usual.
The aircraft welcomes passengers that were scheduled for both wednesday and sunday.

Temporary postponement of all flight operations
10th of December, the management and Board of the Swedish low fare airline Goodjet decided to postpone all flight operations for the moment.
    – We do it because we can not offer our customers a proper product at the moment, says acting CEO, Paul Gruythuysen. We do, however, expect to be back in the air not later than January 15, 2003.

All employees have been working day and night to get the flight operations working. But, finally, the management decided to postpone all further flight operations until January 15th, 2003 at the latest.

    – Ever since Goodjet started early this year, our ambition has been to offer our passengers the best possible low fare ariline service. For the moment, we feel that we are not able any more to fullfil this obligation, says Paul Gruythuysen. We have therefore decided to take a temporary time out in our flight operations.

Passengers already booked on the cancelled flights are offered free reebooking to a future Goodjet flight. Moreover, they will receive a complementary ticket similar to the one they already purchased.

    – The rules for reimbursement are relatively complicated, says Paul Gruythuysen, but they are to be found on our website.

The entire Goodjet staff will remain in the company, working together to take care of the passengers. At the same time, work continues with the preparation of a new time table with a sufficient fleet of aircraft.

Get your money reimbursed – or two tickets!
All passengers that are affected by the postponed flights have good news today: Get your money reimbursed – or a new ticket to the same destination, plus an additional ticket for free!

Goodjet is planning to be in the air again on the 15th of January the latest! Up to the day when operations are resumed, affected passengers of a specific flight may claim their reimbursment or get the free tickets.
Goodjet will reimburse the money within 14 days from the registration is made on the website. Read more (swedish pressrelease)

Claims may be registered from monday the 16th of December, 8am when the reservation system is updated. Instructions will be available on the website of how to preceed!

    Please note!
We cannot accept claims via e-mail due to the high demand on our call centers now.”

    RE: My thoughts on security

I have been reading all of your responses to Mongu’s kick off. The subject is worth discussing interesting ideas came along.

Personally I am against any fire arms on board, don’t like them anyway, as I do not think this is the solution. The more people armed on board, crew or sky marshalls, the more riskes highjackers will take. Can imagine those beasts standing up and straight away start with killing crew or suspected marshalls. Furthermore a sleeping spy is probably to be found in any country, why not a sleeping highjacker within any airline. Yes this is an extreme thought but we are dealing with extreme people. I do believe in making things more difficult but even strenghtened cockpit doors are made by mankind. What mankind can make, mankind can break! About the more safe “containers”, in the current ones I have always seen a kind of metal, what about synthetic fibres? Aren’t they used in those new cockpit doors? I am not a physician but aren’t synthetics lighter and getting stronger and stronger?

Something not put forward yet and currently used for different reasons by KLM: Let governmental security-staff, customs or police, do pre-boarding risk checks. When they think you might be a risk the airline is advised not to accept the passenger. KLM uses this in the fight against drugssmugglers on the AMS-Caribbean flights, negative advise means denied boarding and loss of ticket as it will not be refunded. Anyone without a logical reason or explanation for their flight could be refused. For Christmas I am going to Sweden, I do have a reason, an address and phonenumber from my family which can be checked and I have no reason not to hide that information.

    RE: Goodjet in trouble

The Goodjet Saga seems to me strange in many ways, what to think of their own pressrelease

22nd October 2002 “Goodjet köper Transair Sweden” or in
English “Goodjet buys Transair Sweden” the question
comes up, when this take-over finally took place,
daughter cie refuses to fly for mummy?

22nd November 2002 “Goodjet har ny ägare” or “Goodjet has new owner”,
this is MCI Group in NL which also holds interests
in Air Holland (twice bankrupt already and still
not in safe waters) and Royal Aruban Airlines. Have
not found an MCI website but did find a site of
MCI’s mummy SFI from Luxemburg. When you check it
out it is only in French, looks not really classy
and links on their page do not work at all.

On Goodjet’s website is mentioned today that they resumed flying, allthough limited. The first flight is operated by: Air Holland!

Nice to see that old Virgin feeder again! One of the Virgin employees in that era took part in starting up Air Exel Netherlands BV. This company is currently operating under the brand name KLM Exel.

Have no clue though why the name Air Exel Nethelands was picked, the started flying with a Brasilia and I seem to remember it came from Air Exel France. Furthermore there was an Air Exel in the UK and almost positive one in Belgium. Any one more info on these companies and background?
