Furthermore, you didnt get or even attempt to understand any of Swerves points, wherein he points out that Denmark cant just take a huge portion of its domestic expenditure & shift it external in the manner in which you are suggesting – read what he said again:

Right, and you think India could take a huge portion of its domestic expenditure & shift it externally? Without affecting Rupee’s value?

My point is there is no way India could compete with UK in military expenditure. Simply b/c UK is so much more wealthier.

India can field more soldiers..but what about submarines, ships and fighterplanes? (i.e. non-PPP adjusted goods)

Do a comparison in cost with say Absalon Frigate vs Sovremennyy …or U212 SSK vs Kilo …or F-16 vs Sukhoi ..cost is roughly same.

It works perfectly, as long as you understand it, & apply it correctly. Where people go wrong is in applying the PPP for the whole economy inappropriately.

    LOL
No, it doesn’t work “perfectly”. No international trade is conducted in PPP adjustments.

This whole “PPP” BS is misleading, just drop it.

You don’t have major threatening neighbourhood and the budget is accordingly well sized.

    I’m not Danish.

And that brings us to the question as to why you brought Denmark into the discussion in the first place.

I brought up Government of Denmark b/c it’s roughly equal to Government of India in economic wealth.

Anyone who thinks India can compete with UK is simply delusional.
    Here’s why:

    UK, Government revenue = $1.1 trillion / Defence Budget = $60 billion
    (5.5% of revenue)

    India, Government revenue = $150 billion / Defence Budget = $30 billion
    (20% of revenue)

In terms of ´budget & capability’ India has no chance against UK.

Higher values of certain currencies and higher costs of goods in west makes lot of countries with smaller volume of trade have gdp and revenues equal to that of nations with real trade volumes. A simple market correction of currency values will expose where each one stands.

“PPP method” is more relevant to non-traded goods, It doesn’t work when you buy material from international market.

$100 barrel of oil has the same price all over the world.
    (Unless it’s taxed/subsidised by Government)

For example, India’s AC currently under construction is using steel imported from Russia. (Which is affected by steel prices being set on international market)

..it’s the same with tanks & airplanes and almost everything else.

How much does one BMW M5 in India cost?…look at the price and compare it with say…USA. 😉

Could outspend and get much less return as well unless they plan to spend that money in India 😀 and carry the stuff back home.

    Less return? No..not really.
India buys most of it’s weapons from Russia & Israel.
(Not much less expensive compared with western european, honestly)

Denmark spends only a fraction of it’s government revenue on military (~2%)($4 billion).
India spends roughly ~20% ($30billion) of government revenue on military.

BTW: Keep in mind we’re talking about a nation with only 5 million people vs India’s 1200 million.

Denmark with 5 million people has larger government revenue then India ..(keep in mind India has over 1200 million people).

Let me add just one more thing.
    It’s worth remembering.

Denmark (i.e. Government of Denmark) *could* outspend India (i.e. Government of India) in an hypothetical “arms race”.

    Lord redreidy,

Britain was an important center for finance, trade etc. It is not as important now.

London is the world’s largest financial center.

Move over New York, London is the new No. 1

London has officially dethroned New York as the world’s top financial center, according to an index released this month by the Geneva-based World Economic Forum.

    Environmental concerns.

Putting toys into a lake – even if it’s Lake Baikal – wouldn’t really do any good. Too small to offer benefits over silos.

Lake Baikal is by far the largest freshwater lake in the world. Floating nukes is not a good idea….

And you think The Messiah is going to fix any of that? I just happen to have a bridge for sale. . .

No I don’t, I disagree with Obama on a lot of issues. However it’s been only two months…so.

Do you think McCain would have fixed any of “that”

people will be wishing they could have Bush back.

    Nope, won’t happen.

Hundreds of billions of dollars spent on Iraq..yet not a single penny on securing the border with Mexico, it’s too late now – crime is sky-high.
Mexican-gangs (Mara Salvatrucha..etc) are all over the place.

California has gone from “Golden State” to “Foreclosed State”, race wars in Angeles are out of control, LAPD is just helpless.
Kidnappings in Phoenix are simply stunning, really unbelievable.
Nope life in southwest has just become unbearable, not a place where I want my children to grow up..:(

“Liberal-Wussies” in western europe enjoy a lot higher living standards, and that’s one of the reasons I’ve decided to move here. :p

I wish US could be more like Deutschland…
