So who came up with the idea of naming combat planes after game animals?

The pilots of better fighters perhaps 😀

Well while the civil scheme sounds enticing I would actually like to see her in RAF colours – don’t see Proctors all that much, and as a Proctor she was a military machine.

And a quick edit – that is lovely work so far.

On another site he is known as Swen from Sweden, he was banned from another well known aviation site,as this is just away to get hits on his blog.
    Spam basically.

    Yep – spam.

Banned on at least two sites I know. Uses lots of recycled pics that initially were without attribution until complaints rolled in.

That’s a model – a quick check of Youtube shows no film of that particular one. The camo is wrong for the P.12, the real one is Dark Earth/Dark Green/Yellow as would befit a prototype. The prop is far to small for the real deal, the empty turret is a giveaway. Looks like someone built a flying scale model but didn’t bother to film it and put it up on Youtube (although this video of another flying model https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jtAJwcajxM shows what it would be like ) – but there could be film elsewhere, who knows.

I found the answer – you are being pursued by that legendary fighter for truth, justice and the downtrodden everywhere, the Green Arrow.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_Arrow

So what did you do to upset him?

The medals are issued to the individual as an acknowledgement of their service on behalf of their nation. They are issued so the individual may have some tangible way of showing that they served – so as I see it if an individual’s service earned them the medals (bearing in mind that military pay isn’t exactly overly generous and the job itself can be inherently dangerous) then the individual is justified in owning the medals and disposing of them as they wish. Sell the medals, bequeath the medals, donate to a museum etc. that is the individual’s right. The nation may wish to set up funds to make sure that some types of medals that are awarded for conspicuous bravery etc. are retained as part of its heritage however as the individual, not the state earned the medals then it remains the individual’s or their legal heirs’ right to dispose of the medals as they wish.

In Australia the Australian War Memorial has made it a policy of acquiring all VCs awarded to Australians as they become available. It relies heavily on private philanthropy but so far this worthwhile endeavour is continuing to work to preserve these in Australia both for the nation and for the memory of the individual VC recipient.

Can I suggest that as we have digressed into matters that are … well … sensitive that the following solution may offer the best solution for either of the film makers in their efforts to bring us, the eager anoraks, remakes of two classic British stiff upper lip war films.

In the case of The Dambusters I suggest that Wesley Snipes be cast as Gibson – that way if the dog’s name is used then it will give the character of Gibson a chance to sentence the perpetrator to an unlimited imprisonment in the guard house, not to mention being stripped of all rank, decorations etc.

For the Bader film Reach for the Leg Strap Wesley Snipes would also be a good choice because he could present the character of Bader as a cheerful, jive talking brutha who don’t take no **** from old honkies like Dowding. Also it would guarantee American box office returns because the sight of this brutha being carried around by his faithful (grumbling batman) in Colditz would at last remove any taboos that still exist in the deepest parts of the deepest South.

I offer this solution to the deep and meaningful problems of proper depiction of historical characters in modern films for the uninformed public.

    😀 😀 😀

    I shall go now.
