Actually, I think the TV company have decided that a documentary on this thread would make an ideal subject! Seriously…I think the prog may well be seen on overseas networks. Andy
Well it had laughs, tears, pathos, bathos, the famous nude scene on page 15, the heartfelt denials on page 17, well crafted insults, simmering passions, a star who although dead was challenged in the limb department, all sorts of expert commentary, cute cats (well my cat was looking over my shoulder at one stage) not to mention more plot twists than the Iraq war.
If Larry Olivier was still with us I vote that he plays me.
😀
Don’t know why but this aircraft has always intrigued me.
Anyone know of any good books, magazine articles, and/or websites on it?
I’ve read Joe Baugher’s write-ups, but that’s about as detailed information as I’ve been able to find.
Would love to find lots of great pictures of Banshees too…..especially in RCAF colors and with AIM-9 AAM’s.
Squadron have published one of their “In Action” series on it. These are still available.
Mmmm…! Well, I have to say that whilst some questioned the archaeological/historic importance of the digs relative to the Bader incident I seriously have to wonder what was proved by finding the foundations of a pillbox, AA site and E Pen at Hornchurch. Beats me what it proved or what we were able to learn or discover. Or did I miss something? Each to his own….!! :diablo: Andy
Hmmmmmm……. I had the same reservations when I saw that program last year. But then I’m only a HAAAAAAAWWWWWWKKKK SPPPPPITTTTT!!!!! archaeologist.
😉
Can anyone help with info on a Flare gun Number 4 mk 1 made by Molins Machine Gun Ltd of London?
Here’s something >

Brings big bucks these days so there is plenty of temptation to produce fakes and it is relatively easy given the nature of the originals. A real pity that but the unscrupulous are always with us.
A couple of months ago a friend of mine picked up a trench art Etrich Taube made out of a cartridge case. Whoever had made it did a lovely job.
Nah. They were still being used… I’m almost serious! Why Swifts is indeed odd though.
IIRC the Swifts were the rather disastrous early marks which were scrapped or otherwise decommissioned fairly quickly. The Swifts which became the quite successful recon aircraft were the later marks which were seriously redesigned.
Andy, I drew you some pictures but before I could send them, there was a knock at the door, and by some strange coincidence it was an eminent art dealer looking for , would you believe, “just that sort of thing”, needless to say he made me an offer I couldn’t refuse, and now I’m so wealthy I couldn’t give **** who shot who down.
(which was nice!)
Careful there Stuart you’re beginning to sound like me.
😀
I wonder? ( oh no says you !!!! )
Seriously though would they have made the connection? was it that unusual for a tail to be shot off? wasnt there a weakness with some of the 109’s losing their tails in combat during a dive ?
The early models of the 109F had a weakness in that area. Strengthening plates were added to fix it. Later models of the F didn’t have the problem.
Besides, we have no sarky-ologists ….
You called?
🙂
The funny thing about comedy is (if you’ll pardon the pun) that there are no qualifications in the subject , and even if there were what would something like a NVQ (not very qualified) prove?
The fact that you are “falling about laughing” is enough for me, as an amateur, but I do think you have a contradiction in terms ,with amateurs and the London palladium, as I believe they only book professionals.
And yes you do resemble that remark!
Ummmm sorry what was that? I’m now ROFLMAO 😀
Anyway as the Marx Brothers are dead, and the Three Stooges have also departed for the Heavenly Choir the casting problem remains. I see you as played by Ricky Gervase. As for the others perhaps we could bring together the cast of Pearl Harbour and call the thread Pearl Harbour 2 – The Asylum Strikes Back 🙂
Personally I’ll accept any supporting role offered – that’s ‘cos I’m a pillar of society.
😀
I joined this forum for serious debates and increase my knowledge of our aviation heritage and at the same time hopefully help others.
With surreal posts like above, I find myself getting increasingly disillusioned.
I do not feel we are doing the memory of those who served and died any justice by continuing this type of debate.
Just lie back and think of England – the result will be much the same.

Actually they are just finalising the details, r.e who will play who in the film;
problem seems to be that all the actors aproached so far, have refused the part of the egotistical academic archaeologist, who’s abrasive condescending attitude towards people, leaves them (the actors) with a feeling , that to play such an overtly nasty piece of work, would be harmful to their careers.
In contrast, they are queueing up to play Bader, as by comparison, DB appears to be a warm human being ,who never held a grudge, and definately wouldn’t keep on about something, when clearly no one wanted to hear it.
Sir, if I wasn’t falling about laughing at Amateur Night at the Palladium I might be tempted to be upset. Let me say this Sir !!!
I resemble that remark.
😀
I’ve split the thread at this point so that the ‘Bader Enigma’ comedy show doesn’t swamp the more serious discussion above.

Serious discussion ? And here I was under the impression that the whole thing was a wind up from beginning to end. 😀
Navvies with shovels claiming to be archaeologists, real archaeologists told in no uncertain terms by the navvies that their “hawwwkkk spit!!!!” professional qualifications are not worth a pinch of dried sparrow poop.
A whole TV show made and broadcast about not finding the legless one’s Spitfire.
Someone claiming that the legless one actually spent some of his war service in a hotel in Liverpool at the expense of the Germans and the British.
Various others claiming various other things. Two noted authors having a bit of a set too over who did what and to whom.
Tell me when’s the film coming out – it’ll be a scream. It’s a pity that the Marx Brothers are no longer with us.
🙂
No idea about where, what or who but that is a Tiger Moth so not WW1.
