As Blue Max said above. A special privilege to be able to be part of the Centennial celebrations with the BE2 replica at Farnborough Air Sciences Trust yesterday.
A big thankyou too, to TAG Aviation, who now run Farnborough, for fitting the BE in amongst a hosted of bemused business jets!
We also hope to be part of celebration activities with No.II (AC) Sqn at Marham in May and at the Central Flying School in June, so a busy few weeks ahead!
Ian, Rob,
Thank you so much for sharing this. The ‘must read’ of the week, month, and probably much longer.
Here’s to the continuing recuperation.
Sounds like the RAF missed out on a bl**dy good sim instructor, but hopefully we can benefit from your writing some more in the future….
One of my favourite formation pics. Barry Tempest I believe……
TT
Many, many congratulations on putting together such a flying start to the season for the museum. How you and Peter Teichman conspired to create that timely break in the clouds, I’ll never know…. and as far as getting a BE-2, a Fokker DR-1, a Spitfire and a Messerschmitt all together on one airfield…. Well!
Great to see and meet so many forumites in one place…. not least T-21 and G-ASEA!!
Superb record of some of the 80 arrivals! Here’s hoping weather and turnout will be equally spectacular next weekend at Fenland! ๐
Huw, David
If you fancy a journey ‘out east’….. We’re off to Fenland next!! ๐
Superb. Great to see you Dave. Sorry I was in a rush, had to fly ๐
Another good contact is Dave Almey at Skycraft at Bourne in Lincolnshire. His “chop shop” is usually quite productive…. http://www.sky-craft.co.uk/
One can’t entirely blame the CAA for this. They are trying to make sense of an even bigger mess that EASA has made of flight crew licensing across the whole of Europe.
As far as fees are concerned, it is a long-time known fact that the CAA, uniquely as a safety/licensing body, is required by the Department for Transport to show a six percent profit on its turnover!!
If you’ve got a beef with that, contact the Minister responsible, Justine (I don’t want another Heathrow runway in my constituency) Greening!
Very sad news, but what an innings…
I doubt any other individual has brought aviation to so many people.
Thank you Jock. Happy landings….

Here he is in a slightly less satisfactory situation!

As the consultation and planning of the airspace restrictions has been going on for well over a year now, you can rest assured that those at airfields thus affected are VERY aware of them!
I was the person who wrote the articles which appeared in A…plane magazine and as chairman of the Vintage Aircraft Club canconfirm there have been plenty of discussions and communication programmes. Yes there is going to be some significant restriction of flying, particularly in the area around London during the period 14 July to 15 August, while a separate, smaller airspace restriction will cover the Paralympic Games from 16 August to 12 September.
Most air show organisers have adjusted their dates, both to accommodate this and a couple of air shows have been rescheduled because many Police and other emergency and ground-based services will be deployed elsewhere in July and August.
Meanwhile there is there is also a capacity entry for the Vintage Glider Club Olympian gliding event which will be held at Long Mynd from July 14-21st as part of the 126th running of the Wenlock Olympian Games, which founded in 1850 is in fact the original modern Olympics!
The main class is open to variants of the โOlympiaโ glider, which had war not intervened was set to be the single type flown to ensure parity between competitors in the 1940 Olympic Games in Finland, when gliding and aerobatics were due to become Olympic sports!
