Lovely pics Tom.
The Dak is wonderful, but the Growler….wow!
When’s she next running?
Time for some more Airknockers…………
….this 1938 KCA started me looking last year. Sadly the likely cost of shipping and getting it airworthy in the UK, was going to be equal to what its worth. So it’s still in Virginia USA.
Is that Pietenpol actually pulling away from the Pushpak ?
Looking forward to doing some more air/airs with your new bus.
Yep. That’s Arthur Mason’s G-ADRA practicing formation (well, same day same county) at a stately 60mph!
Look forward to forming up with BTUM in the near future!
Mike – the engine in the Aeronca C-3 is a 36-horsepower Aeronca JAP flat twin. And yes, Champs do look a bit like fat Cubs, but they have a bit more space and fly just as nice. I guess the side-by-side Chief / Pushpak is best described as a very fat Cub!
Wot no Luscombes or T-Craft yet???? 🙁
Nice painting. Reminds me a bit of that crosswind landing shot that appeared on the forum a while ago! :diablo:
The best bit is, it looks like he’s going to fit it in a hot rod chassis – yeeeha! 😀
But do tell us when you’re planning to launch. We all want to come and watch! :diablo:
The Sky Ranger certainly looked less than substantial though… 😮 But it was extremely quiet and had an extremely short takeoff run!
Don’t be deceived by the fact that it looks like a deck-chair. The Sky Ranger is an excellent performer. Try giving Paul Dewhurst a call at FlyLight at Sywell. I’m sure he’ll be delighted to arrange for you to have a go. Even with two-up, you’ll be amazed at the rate of climb after a PA-28!
Awesome! 😮
I’ve just been lying on the front steps for half an hour ……
Over to you.
Friday night tonight. One or two might be assuming this position after going out on the town :diablo:
Although I’ve known about the Slingsby Grasshopper for many years, it still amazes me to think that it actually flew short hops across wind swept airfields – being towed by Land Rover or numerous cadets who would run ahead while pulling a tow rope.
Apart from demonstrating the basics of controlled flight, did anyone ever manage a circuit or have a flight time that was measured in minutes rather than seconds?
More than that. Some lunatic from I think Lasham gliding club actually flew one across the Channel, on an aerotow behind a Tiger Moth I seem to remember!
I saw (but sadly didn’t photograph) one fully rigged and ready to go at Henlow earlier this year and TT has an example locked away at Sywell, which I’m sure could be unearthed if anyone’s daft enough! :diablo:
That’s right, as Yak 11 says, the former owner of the Buchon and Hurricane is an enthusiastic collector of pre-war types (including the Mew Gull, Arrow Active, Maggie, Aeronca etc etc)… expect to see the collection expand along those lines in future.
Luton Minor?
……I’ll get my coat :diablo:
I got my LownSlows mixed up
Hmmm. Maybe time for a name change then? 😮
I looked at a Taylorcraft (or three), before stumbling across the Pushpak. They’re nice aeroplanes. The Pushpak flies a little slower due to its bigger wing and its quite a bit heavier.
I guess the best way of describing it, is that the Pushpak does on 90hp what a Taylorcraft will do on 65. But I love it anyway!
Not high on Mrs Hammond’s ‘Things to buy for Richard at Xmas’ list I’d guess.
Moggy
Darn…you beat me to it Moggy!!!
Suggest we get our respective coats…… 😀
Is that the Pushpak I saw at Priory Farm last weekend? It was interesting to compare it to the Aeronca.
I managed to squeeze in a 30 minute bimble around Norfolk just before dusk after having been turned upside down a few times earlier in the afternoon…
It was/is. Now relocated to Bicester after a few weeks waiting for paperwork, then a suitable weather window.
Bicester thankfully has a bit more space for me to learn its ground handling characteristics. It’s a delight to fly, but it’s got a bit more inertia than a Luton Minor! 😀
Sad to hear of the demise of the Faulkes Flying Foundation. Keep up the good work at Gransden Lodge!
